  1. Camp Session Plans- OBSTACLE RACES Overall Objectives Outcomes/Success Criteria 1. 2. To wait their turn Show good sportsmanship Equipment: Dome cones, traffic cones, hoops, scooters, beanbags etc. egg & spoon, tennis racket, tennis ball. Time 9.30-10 Image/Video link/ Parent Link Theme/Focus: CAMP- Obstacle Races Set Up: Pre set obstacle courses and put children in to 4-6 teams dependent on volume of children How to Play: 1. Set up three obstacles (this could be a balance, a way to travel and a jump, in which ever order you wish). 2. After a few rounds, add 1 or 2 more obstacles (a target and a fun element e.g. dance, scooter etc) or make it harder by balancing a ball on a tennis racket, instead of a beanbag on the head, or egg and spoon for example. Example: Balance a beanbag on head to the first cone, skip to the next cone, jump in and out of a hoop 5 times and repeat actions on the way back. 3. Knowledge Check & Cool Down Stretches Phrase Perfect: This morning we are going to see if we can more around our challenging obstacle courses. Who thinks they will be super fast? If you all do really well we will make it even harder and see if you can balance equipment or add extra obstacles. Coaching/Teacher Tips/Questioning: Remind children of good sportsmanship Get older children to help take out/set up equipment/obstacles Award points, not only for winning but for SPEED (sportsmanship, progression, engagement, enthusiasm and discipline). Progressions: Differentiation: Use beanbags for balancing for younger children Use ball on a tennis racket for balancing, for older children. Make it in to a competition by awarding points for being the fastest back. This could be done with 1 set of children at a time or the whole team to get back the fastest to win points. Ask children to choose the next obstacle

  2. Camp Session Plans- CIRCUS SKILLS - DIABLO & JUGGLING Overall Objectives Outcomes/Success Criteria Good Pirates- Be the last one left in the game to not be hit by a ball Bad pirates- to get as many people out as possible Equipment: diablo s, juggling balls, dance/juggling scarves, beanbags, tennis balls. Time 10- 10.45AM Theme/Focus: CIRCUS SKILLS DIABLO & JUGGLING Image/Video link/ Parent Link DIABLO: Set Up: - Have different items to juggle including juggling balls, scarves and beanbags (can have tennis balls as an alternative to juggling balls) - Have diablo s ready - Set out 2 areas where children rotate to a different skill half way through - If very low number of children, coaches and enough equipment, everyone can juggle first and then try the diablo s or vice versa. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DLmB-EEv4k https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6G1IaW5mdVc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5UGiDFkaOY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-IkxdG6WtE How to Play: Sit children down and ask them what they might see at the circus- tricks, acts etc. Ask them if they know what a diablo is (then show them the diablo) Ask them what a clown might do- juggling! Ask if anyone knows how to juggle. Demonstrate how to juggle (2 or 3 balls) and ask if anyone can juggle- choose a few children to demonstrate. Demonstrate the diablo. DIABLO: - See videos of how to start diablo and tricks such as throwing and catching - Start with diablo on floor, holding sticks and diablo underneath diablo - Roll the diablo one way and then lift off floor - Move one stick up and down like playing the drum to keep the diablo moving/rolling https://shop.houseofmarbles.com/puzzle- solutions/diablo-instructions/ (INSTRUCTIONS) End with Points &Recap of skills/how to Phrase Perfect: Coaching/Teacher Tips/Questioning: To help engage children make sure to be theatrical as you are talking through what we can do when we juggle and use the diablo We are going to try out some circus skills now. Does anyone know circus skills we could learn? First we will try the diablo. It looks a bit like an egg timer and has 2 sticks connect with string. To start with we will take turns to get the diablo moving and spinning on the string. Once we have got it spinning we can try tricks like flicking it up in the air and catching it. If we have access to a screen- we can use this to help show juggling or diablo tutorials (coaches should check these before playing). Tissues could even be used as an alternative or pieces of material!!

  3. Camp Session Plans- CIRCUS SKILLS - DIABLO & JUGGLING Time 10- 10.45AM Theme/Focus: CIRCUS SKILLS JUGGLING Image/Video link/ Parent Link JUGGLING: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QutsSlIFXLw (scarves) JUGGLING: Show children different ways to juggle- using scarves, balls and bean bags. Begin By practicing throwing and catching with 1 and then introduce a 2nd Make sure all children get to practice on scarves, balls and beanbags Introduce a 3rd ball/scarf/beanbag for older/more advanced https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33-wh82rBHM (scarves) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDEOS8oLCrU (Scarves) SCARVES Allow children to experiment with what else they can do with scarves- - Can they throw and catch, throw clap catch, throw spin catch, travel whilst we throw and catch? Throw to each other? Throw and catch on their foot?! - Can children throw a scarf and then do head shoulder knees and toes knees and toes and catch it before it hits the floor?! JUGGLING SCARVES Hold juggling scarf in the middle. Juggling with scarves helps us prepare for other heavier objects as the flight is longer and gives us time to prepare and catch it. Draw a box and then throw scarf from bottom corner to opposite top corner and catch with opposite hand. 2 scarves- throw 1, throw the other then catch catch! 3 scarves- start with the hand that has 2 scarves in, throw one then one from the other hand, catch the first and throw the final one and keep on doing this!! End with Points & Cool Down Stretches Phrase Perfect: Coaching/Teacher Tips/Questioning: To help engage children make sure to be theatrical as you are talking through what we can do when we juggle and use the diablo We will also try some juggling. This is quite a hard skill but can be easier when we use scarfs. Start with one scarf and see if you can throw it from one hand to the other. You can also see if you can clap or turn around before you catch the scarf. Once this is easy you can add another scarf and try and throw and catch both. Throw, throw, catch, catch If this is harder you can throw one scarf and pass the other one across swapping hands. Then you can try with three and you keep throwing and catching until one falls to the floor. If we have access to a screen- we can use this to help show juggling or diablo tutorials (coaches should check these before playing). Tissues could even be used as an alternative or pieces of material!!

  4. Camp Session Plans- CIRCUS SKILLS - DIABLO & JUGGLING Time 10- 10.45AM Theme/Focus: CIRCUS SKILLS JUGGLING Image/Video link/ Parent Link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9NdhxGxzD4 (juggling balls) JUGGLING BALLS 1 BALLS: create rainbow focus on the ball - look at top of rainbow!! Arms relaxed and throw mostly with elbow! Height of head or slightly higher. Do not reach up to catch the ball. Wait for it to come down! 1 hand tricks- throw under leg, hands really wide, behind shoulder etc. 2 BALLS: 1 ball in each hand, throw one then the other, catch then catch!! Try to keep to same height. 3 BALLS: 2 balls on the side you will throw with first! E.g. throw right, left, catch left whilst you throw the next right and catch right (other ball) and so on!!! End with Points & Cool Down Stretches Phrase Perfect: Coaching/Teacher Tips/Questioning: To help engage children make sure to be theatrical as you are talking through what we can do when we juggle and use the diablo We can also try juggling with our juggling balls. Using the same steps as the scarves. We can also see what tricks we can do using the juggling balls can we throw a ball over our shoulder and catch it or under one leg? If we have access to a screen- we can use this to help show juggling or diablo tutorials (coaches should check these before playing). Tissues could even be used as an alternative or pieces of material!!

  5. Camp Session Plans- CIRCUS SKILLS - Spinning Plates and Balancing Skills Theme/Focus: CIRCUS SKILLS - Spinning Plates and Balancing Skills Time 11-11.45 Image/Video link/ Parent Link Equipment/Set Up: - Have plates and different equipment to balance to the side of the space - Set out areas for different groups to practice different skills after demonstration https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5A-txCv2dXk How to Play: Sit children down and ask them what these are (hold up spinning plates) Demonstrate!!! Talk them through the technique (even if you can t necessarily do it yourself, we still need to explain how!!) After a little demo, show them different equipment that the children can balance on different parts or that they themselves can balance on (bench etc) SPINNING PLATE - Hold stick near bottom with index finger pointing up (hold loosely not rigid) - Put plate on stick (so the plate is sideways and stick underneath plate) - Start making circles by making tiny circles with wrist (not arm) - Plate will start spinning faster and can create bigger circles with wrist and plate will start to even out/become more flat! - This is when you want to stop the circles with your wrist and hopefully the stick will go into the middle of the plate and start spinning on it s own! - If children are struggling get them to put the plate on the stick like in the pictures and give it a spin. PROGRESSIONS: Once spinning on own, hold the stick in the middle and try to flick plate up and catch! Transfer to finger! Have plate in hand and throw up with a spin and try and catch on stick. End with Points & Recap of skills/how to and demonstrations from kids. Phrase Perfect: Coaching/Teacher Tips/Questioning: To help engage children make sure to be theatrical as you are talking through what we can do when we juggle and use the diablo We can also try spinning plates. These are special plates and sticks so don t try this with plates at home. The easy way is to put our plate flat onto the stick and give it a spin. If you want to make it harder you can start with the stick up and put the plate on sideways. Now start with little circles and get bigger till the plate is nearly flat and stop spinning putting the stick in the middle of the plate If we have access to a screen- we can use this to help show juggling or diablo tutorials (coaches should check these before playing).

Scooter Bowling: Children set up bowling pins and mark out a starting line. One child sits or lays on the scooter and another does a little run up and pushes them towards the bowling pins. Scooters vs Non Scooters Dodgeball Tag: Taggers on scooters, trying to get those not on scooters out (dodgeball rules but using whole space and no divide. Main Scooter Rules: Differentiation: If you have a larger number of children, they may need to take in turns playing games on scooters, or coach to give choices for games where they share i.e. races, scooters vs non scooters. Give children a sense of choice/voting WHY? Promotion of the British Values No standing on the scooters Can travel on bottom, tummy or knees Certain games require children to travel in a certain way- coaches must give clear instructions and children perform the correct way No attaching skipping ropes to scooters Risk assess the area- make sure children will not be pushed on the scooters into a wall, chair etc. Coaching/Teacher Tips/Questioning: Follow the rules/fair play 1 child per scooter Aware of surrounding and not bumping into other children or objects!

Camp Session Plans- CLOWN CUT OUT Theme/Focus: CIRCUS SKILLS - CLOWN CUT OUT Time 2-2.45 Image/Video link/ Parent Link Equipment/Set Up: - Large box/Cardboard - Pens, paper, scissors, paint, cellotape, glue etc. How to Play: Draw out a clown on a large piece of cardboard OR cut out a circle for the face and allow children together to draw and create hair, props, body etc. around. This could then be painted, coloured, pieces of paper stuck on (mosaic) As an alternative smaller faces can be created where eyes and mouth shapes can be cut out rather than the whole face/head. Phrase Perfect: Coaching/Teacher Tips/Questioning: Make sure children understand not to draw a face in the middle of the circle/oval Children can also cut out eyes and a mouth if they would rather than the whole face. Let children s imagination run wild. We are going to turn our faces into clowns. We need to draw a big oval that will fit our face in. Then we decorate around the outside to make it look like a clown. Adding hair, hat, bow tie or even a tiny body. Then we can cut out the middle of the oval and turn ourselves into a clown.
