  1. EARTHS CHANGING SURFACE LESSON 5B Can Mountains Grow So Tall They Reach Outer Space? Why or Why Not?

  2. Earths Changing Surface: Review What have we discovered so far about how Earth s surface changes over time? How is Earth s surface built up? How is Earth s surface worn down?

  3. Todays Focus Question Can mountains grow so tall they reach outer space? Why or why not?

  4. Investigation: Rocks and Mountains Complete Task C in your small group. Follow the task directions on the handout carefully and keep the focus questions in mind! After completing this task: 1. Read the focus questions aloud. 2. Discuss new ideas the task gave you for answering these questions. 3. Write these ideas in your science notebooks. Make sure to use complete sentences!

  5. Investigation: Rocks and Mountains Task C: 1. Count the rocks in the bag. Record this number in your notebooks and draw a picture of the rocks. 2. Place the rocks in the jug and secure the lid. Shake the jug for 2 minutes (take turns). Then count the rocks again, record this number, and draw another picture. In your science notebook: Describe any differences you noticed in how the rocks looked before and after you shook them in the jug. Think about the rocks in the jug and predict what might happen to a boulder that rolls down a mountain slope.
