  2. *CAO 2020 The CAO is responsible for processing applications and recording acceptances for HEIs, but all decisions on admissions are made by the individual institutions and not by CAO. Students must carefully read the CAO Handbook, distributed to their school which contains information on all of the courses, restrictions, deadlines, fees and application guidelines. A copy of the handbook is available to download at http://www.cao.ie/index.php?page=downloads All students should also seek the advice of their school guidance counsellor before completing their CAO application.

  4. *Calculated Certificate. from ONE sitting of the Leaving *SIX best subjects (LCVP can be used for points purposes only) *Bonus points are awarded for Honours Maths (25 points for H6 and over) *Entry Requirements can be satisfied over more than one sitting of the LC (except for Medicine). *Some Foundation Level Maths for certain courses. now accept and offer points for IT s *Points System

  5. * Apply online via www.cao.ie. Click on apply. * Enter personal details carefully, particularly date of birth and email address. * Once registered on the system, CAO will email all applicants an application number. This number must be kept safe. This number will be needed for all future correspondence with CAO. * Students should then click on my application to begin entry. * Applicants should check emails regularly for correspondence. * Any change to personal details cannot be done online and must be done by post. *How to Apply

  6. * There are two course choice lists (Level 8 and Level 7/6) and applicants may make up to 10 course choices on each list. * Your choices on one list do not in any way affect your choices on the other list. They may be considered two separate applications on one form. * It is possible to receive an offer on both lists. You may then decide to accept either your Level 7/6 or your Level 8 offer. * Alternatively, you might not wish to accept either offer. *2 Applications in 1

  8. * Regardless of the points you achieve, you will not be accepted by a HEI if you do not meet their minimum entry requirements. * You must meet minimum entry requirements, at any subject specific requirement and then the cut off points before you may be considered for entry to your chosen courses. * Consult prospectus, www.cao.ie or www.qualifax.ie for details and information before applying for any course. *Minimum Entry Requirements

  9. *Universities *A minimum of six Leaving Certificate subjects , 2H5 + 4O6/H7. LCVP can not be used here. *National University of Ireland (NUI) Colleges (UCD, UCC, NUIM, NUIG) + RCSI, St. Angela s College, Shannon College of Hotel Management: Require English, Irish & 3rd language ( for some but not all courses). NUI exemption needed here if you re exempt from Irish. *DCU- to include the subjects English OR Irish AND the subject Mathematics. *UL- 2 H5 &4 O6 Four O6 (Ordinary Level) grades or four H7 (Higher Level) grades. Subjects must include Mathematics, Irish or another language, and English. *Trinity 3 H5, a pass in English, Maths. and a pass in a language other than English OR *A pass in Latin and a pass in a subject other than a language.

  10. *Level 8 2H5 & 4O6. English or Irish at Ordinary Level O6 /H7 or better. Mathematics at O6 /H7 or better. *Level 6/7 - 5 subjects at Ordinary Level Grade O6/H7. English or Irish at O6/ H7 or better. Mathematics at O6 /H7 or better. *Institutes of Technology

  12. *Before the end of May, all applicants will receive a Statement of Application Record in the post. This is an extremely important document and must be carefully reviewed and any errors or omissions must be noted on this form and returned to CAO immediately. *Check for NUI Irish Exemption *Statement of Application Record

  13. *Change Of Mind Facility *If you need to amend or add courses you may need to use the Change of Mind facility before the 1st July at 17:15. *log in via the 'My Application' facility and go to add/change course choices; *introduce all of your courses on the 'New List' in your preferred order of preference, remembering to click 'Continue with course changes' to save the information; and, *check the acknowledgement e-mail sent to the e-mail address you supplied when making your application. Make sure to check that your changes have been recorded completely and correctly.
