  2. Aim of Project Test a practical implementation of the new Career Development Framework for Community Mental Health Nursing

Detailed Project Aims CMHNs will evidence (benchmark) that they are working within or working towards an appropriate level in the CDF Use a PDSA approach Integrate the CDF into existing practices where possible Source stakeholder's experiences to influence process Produce content to support CMHNs to use the CDF based on results

  4. What we did 1stTest of Change Two CMHTs identified as pilot sites Developed a class room session Proposed the CDF could be used as part of supervision and staff PDP Cycle of self assessment and action planning Response positive Further practice support planned with PIDN Team

  5. What we did 2ndTest of Change PIDN Team support in the practice environment Weekly visits where possible Highlighted practical challenges Availability of staff Time constraints And positive outcomes CDF prompted practice development discussion Supported reflective discussions around staff practice Highlighted support needs leading into integration

  6. Next Steps 3rdCycle of Change Spread across all CMHT s in NHSL Develop a poster to share across service locally and nationally Incorporate staff and their experiences as part of roll out CMHT Team Leaders to make use of CDF through their PDP Leadership to model new practice Support from PIDN team

  7. Recommendations Promotion of Support and Supervision at a work force level Development of a NES Self Assessment tool that directly links to the CDF doc Clear, practical guide on how to use the document for staff at all levels Leadership on the use and benefits of the CDF and evidencing the nursing role

  8. The PIDN team cannot recommend strongly enough the professional value of using the framework to provide clear evidence of the diverse and specialist role of the Community mental health Nurse which is continually changes to meet the evolving need of the people nurses care for.
