Cares Act Funding MLC Subgrants Jennifer Peacock Administrative Services Director/LSTA Coordinator June 4, 2020
Purpose Public Law 116-136 provides that this funding, is for the following purposes: To expand digital network access, purchase internet accessible devices, and provide technical support services To prevent, prepare for, and respond to coronavirus
In order to achieve the Acts purposes with respect to Grants to States, this funding is to be used as follows: 1Primarily to address digital inclusion and related technical support, using the following types of data to inform targeted efforts: Poverty/Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Unemployment Broadband availability 2Secondarily to address other efforts that prevent, prepare for, and respond to COVID-19.
Connectivity: Laptops, chromebooks, Wifi extenders and repeaters, cameras/microphones to help virtual meetings, equipment upgrades to strengthen wireless network (switches, routers, modems, etc.), hotspots Unemployment related: online unemployment resources, assistance with job searches, training librarians to assist in unemployment COVID-response supplies: disinfectant sprays and wipes, masks, gloves, sneeze guards for desks, keyboard covers Digital content: eBooks, audiobooks, databases (expanding on current service)
Details Each system was awarded a $ amount. You may divide that amount up into different grants as you desire. For example: ABC Library System received $4,000. They can write one grant for $1000 for supplies and then spend the remaining $3000 on a different grant(s). You may not transfer left over funds from one grant to another. This grant period will cover the time period from April 21, 2020 until June 30, 2021. Anything purchased prior to April 21, 2020 cannot be part of this grant.
Details, cont. The supplies grant will be an almost completed grant. Under Description, you will add the specific supplies you are purchasing and an approximate cost beside the item. Ex. 10 gallons of bleach $25 20 containers of disinfectant wipes $50 100 disposable mask $75.00
Details, cont. The deadline to apply for this grant is April 1, 2021. Final reports for all grants will be due August 21, 2021. Reimbursement request forms will remain the same format. Mid year evaluations are no longer required. MLC will provide recommendations of common purchased items for this funding.
