Background Norah Agro Catalyst (NAC) and Kamtech Logistics (U) Ltd.(KMT) are sister Companies involved in the cassava business andoffer huge readily available market opportunity for dry cassava chips which is currently unmet by cassava farmers in the greater Northern region. 2 NAC sources for the dry Cassava Raw material and supplies KMT processing factory located in Barlwala Village, Angwetangwet Parish, Adekokwok sub-county in Erute South-Lira district. KMT processes the cassava sourced and supplied by NAC into high quality saleable bioethanol products. The current KMT factory dry cassava demand is not met by the NAC s cassava supply. NAC and KMT urge all stakeholders in the greater Northern region and beyond involved in the cassava value chain to promote massive cassava production for mutual benefits both as a food security and commercial crop.

  3. KAMTECHS CURRENT CASSAVA FACTORY CAPACITY 1. Current factory daily dry cassava demand is14.4metric tons This converts directly to 57.6 tons of fresh cassava. To be doubled within the first week of January, 2018. 3 2. Monthly dry cassava demand: 432 metric tons (432,000 kg) An equivalent of 1,728 metric tons of fresh cassava per month. 3. Current price offered by KMT per kilogram of dry cassava chips delivered to the factory is UXG1,200 at peak scarcity period and not less than 750/kg at peak harvest season. 4. Dry cassava price has been increasing from UXG350/kg at the time of factory commissioning to UXG1,200/kg.

  4. CURRENT AVAILABLE CASSAVA MARKET WITH NAC AND KMT 4 i. Actual current monthly market value of dry cassava chips available with NAC and KMT is UGX 518,400,000 (UGX0.518 billion) at peak scarcity or UGX324,000,000 (0.324 billion) at peak harvest. ii. The above market value has a potential to double to UGX1.036 billion per month. iii. KMT can only expand its current factory capacity if the cassava supply increases, since the current capacity is still even underutilized.

  6. USES OF KAMTECHS PROCESSED CASSAVA PRODUCTS All Kamtech Logistics Ltd products produced from dry cassava chips are for industrial uses such as:- 1. In food & beverages industries. 2. In Cosmetics & Toiletry industries. 3. In Pharmaceutical & Chemical industries. 4. Paints industries. 5. In hospitals 6. Energy generation (the potential use of ethanol as domestic cooking appliances fuel from a renewable source), etc. 6

  7. BENEFITS OF NAC AND KAMTECH TO THE GREATER NORTHERN AND NEIGHBOURING REGIONS OF UGANDA 1. Provision of direct employment to the locals. 7 2. Ready and assured market for dry cassava chips contributing to rural economy and the fight against poverty at households levels. 3. Training opportunities for Ugandan students from higher institutions of learning. Several Industrial Training opportunities have so far been offered. 4. Collaboration and knowledge sharing with other stakeholders and Development Partners such as Africa Innovations Institute (AfII), Share an Opportunity Uganda (SAO), Donors, etc.

  8. NAC AND KMT EXPECTATIONS & CONCLUSION 1. NAC and KMT expect all stakeholders from the greater North and neighboring regions in the cassava value chain to promote and encourage farmers to massively grow cassava since there is assured and ready market with Kamtech Logistics (U) Ltd. processing factory in Lira. 8 2. Cassava farmers should form themselves into Groups, Associations, or Cooperatives, etc. to ease the cassava business to realize maximum returns and mutual benefits. 3. For as long as Kamtech Logistics (U) Ltd. products produced from cassava is still being demanded and in short supply in Uganda, the cassava market will continue growing. 4. Cassava farming and business has a very huge potential of transforming the lives and the rural economy of the greater Northern region of Uganda and beyond. THANK YOU
