National Arts & Humanities Month: Background Established in 1993 Celebrated every October in the United States Initiated to encourage Americans to explore new facets of the arts & humanities in their lives, and to begin a lifelong habit of participation in the arts & humanities It has become the nation's largest collective annual celebration of the arts
National Arts & Humanities Month: Goals To create a national, state and local focus on the arts & humanities through the media To encourage the participation of individuals, as well as arts, humanities and other organizations To provide an opportunity for federal, state and local business, government and civic leaders to declare their support for the arts and humanities To establish a highly visible vehicle for raising public awareness about the arts & humanities
October is Arts Month! First time event for the Pikes Peak region Community-wide arts awareness initiative Everyone is invited to participate and benefit Modest/realistic expectations for first year Will become an annual event each October Sponsored by the Anschutz Foundation and the Tiemens Foundation for the arts Success will depend on collaboration with diverse cultural partners, across all creative disciplines
October is Arts Month! In 2010, the region's 10-year Cultural Plan identified "increasing engagement, access and participation in cultural life" as a primary goal for our community In 2013, COPPeR's Board approved a strategy to advance this goal through a regional advocacy campaign, now known as Arts Month Arts should be interpreted broadly to include a wide range of cultural, heritage and creative partners
October is Arts Month! OBJECTIVE Increase awareness and participation in the arts in the Pikes Peak region during the month of October KEY MESSAGE Arts Month is a great time to discover and engage the quality and diversity of our creative community!
Desired Outcomes A community that is more aware of cultural offerings Increase in attendance at your organization s cultural events and activities Increase in giving to your organization s annual fundraising campaign Increase in visitors to PeakRadar.com (website benefits 700+ groups who post events) Increase in likes to COPPeR and PeakRadar Facebook pages (benefits all future postings)
Measuring Success Tracking metrics on PeakRadar.com Tracking metrics on Facebook pages Additional coverage in local and regional media Data from partner organizations (attendance, memberships, earned revenue, donations, etc.) Audience feedback/targeted survey tools Anecdotal stories from partner organizations How well did we, as a creative community, collaborate with each other?
