COURAGE Tuesday 21st November 2023
We light these candles to show that Jesus is the light of the world. May He shine in our hearts.
WELCOME WORDS We have gathered in the name of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, to worship together and think about our value Courage.
MUHAMMED ALI Was the world heavy weight champion! He was and is considered the greatest boxer that has ever lived.
THE VIETNAM WAR In the 1960 s America went to fight in the Vietnam war. America wanted to stop certain people from running Vietnam because they did not believe in the American way of running a country. Many American soldiers died in the war, but thousands of Vietnamese civilians lost of their lives.
CONSCRIPTION Normal men who were not soldiers were forced to go and fight in Vietnam because of conscription. Even Muhammed Ali, the greatest boxer in the world was told to go and fight. He was told that if he didn t go and fight, he would lose his title as the champion of the world. Muhammed Ali had one thing to say about that I have no quarrel with the Vietnamese people. To punish is refusal to go, the Americans removed his championship belt and throw him into jail!
REFLECT How did Muhammed Ali show courage?
RESPOND Think of a time that you might have to show courage. How would you show courage at this time?
PRAYER Almighty God, who gives strength to the weak and upholds those who might fall, give me courage to do what is right, for those that trust in you have no need to fear. Amen
As the flame disappears, may we keep the light and love of Christ alive in our hearts, thoughts and actions.
