Introduction Of RBI Every country has one central bank, which controls the entire banking and financial system of that country. It does not compete with other banks.it regulates all other banks of the country. Central bank is the top most bank of the country. It looks after the whole banking and financial system of the country. The Reserve Bank of India is the central bank of our country. Definition of a Central Bank (1) Shaw says "A central bank is a bank which controls credit". (2) Sayers says "A central bank is a government's bank". (3) Kish and Elkim say "The essential function of a central bank is maintenanceof stability of monetary (money) standards. All the definitions give importance to only one particular functions of central banking that is control of money. The central bank controls the monetary system of a country.
