CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT (CNA) Certified nursing assistants go by a variety of names depending on where they work and the state in which they are registered. Some of the different names include NA, or Nurse Aide, RNA, or registered nurse aide, GNA, or geriatric nurse aide, STNA, or state tested nurse aide, and LNA, or licensed nursing assistant. A certified nursing assistant provides hands-on care to patients of all ages who are unable to care for themselves. This individual can work in a variety of healthcare facilities, such as hospitals, skilled nursing units, hospice agencies, Alzheimer s units and rehabilitation facilities. CNAs report directly to licensed nurses
CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT (CNA) Nursing assistant jobs are projected to increase by 17 percent between 2012 and 2022, ensuring that new nursing assistants will not struggle to find a job in most areas. United States boasts 1.5 million nursing assistant jobs with the average certified nursing assistant making just over $28,000 per year. CNA are allowed to do tasks as regulated by the facility in which they are employed. They are not allowed to tasks that fall under the realm of licensed nurses (LVN or RN). CNA training involves supervised clinical training and nursing classes. To earn certification, nursing assistants must complete an education program approved by the state, which often sets a minimum number of clinical and classroom hours. Some states also mandate certain coursework, such as HIV/AIDS training. Prospective nursing assistants can enroll in CNA programs through community colleges, hospitals, the American Red Cross, vocational schools, and other educational settings. In Texas CNAs must successful compete the competency evaluations program examination (Nurse Aide Competency Evaluation Services).
CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT (CNA) Texas-approved Nurse Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program is the most direct path to becoming a CNA. The programs are 100 hours and include 60 hours of class and 40 hours of clinical skills training. Programs usually last from 4-12 weeks and can last up to 6 months Texas Health and Human Services maintains a registry of all nurse aides who are certified to provide services in nursing facilities and skilled nursing facilities licensed by the agency Nurse aides in Texas must complete 24 hours of approved in-service education every two years
