SUMMARY OF UNIVERSITIES REACTION TO SUMMARY OF UNIVERSITIES REACTION TO THE PANDEMIC THE PANDEMIC Universities closed down for an average period of 3 8 months depending on country guidelines During the closure faculty were expected to remain in their residences except those in essential services All travels abroad were suspended (airports and borders closed) most International students were confined in hostels while observing preventive measures & supported with health preventive essentials Students encouraged to continue self-learning, taking advantage of online teaching materials and seminars conducted online. Students undertaking research and in write-up stage continued their engagements on virtual platforms

CURRENT STATUS ON UNIVERSITY REOPENING CURRENT STATUS ON UNIVERSITY REOPENING Respective governments issued re-opening guidelines some of which were aligned to AU, UNESCO and WB reopening strategies Partial Re-opening in some countries only students at final stages of their studies on campus to complete the academic year so new enrollment can fully take place in 2021 Full re-opening Ministries of Education provide standards and institutions required to through assessment to be granted full reopening permission Assessment methods are being reviewed to fit the pandemic limitations Teaching is being digitized and students and faculty supported to facilitate online teaching and learning; Hybrid/ blended learning (face to face and online learning) in progress to respond to social distancing measures (regional students joining lessons online and locals do f2f) Development of new online content and review of existing online content & Assembling of necessary equipment for online teaching Faculty capacity building on teaching online
