  8. THE (ALMOST) LAST WORKS Faur 's penultimate work, composed in 1923. The master of chanson and m lodie composes a piece where it seems no note is out of place, and weaves together historic styles, including imitation and counterpoint. Debussy died in 1918, having finished only three of six sonatas of a series. This is the first (1915), and is notably for its groundbreaking style, and for lasting only 11 minutes
