FAFSA and ORSAA are Changing
FAFSA & ORSAA are changing. Why? The Oregon Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, better known as OASFAA, is the professional organization for financial aid administrators in the state of Oregon. OASFAA members are your financial aid experts in the state.
2024-25 Academic Year and Beyond The Free Application for Federal Student Aid and the Oregon Student Aid Application are changing, beginning with the 2024-25 academic year. This change affects students and families who will be completing the FAFSA or ORSAA in the fall of 2023 and beyond.
Supporting Students and Colleges These changes have been in the works since December 2020. The FAFSA changes will better support students and parents as they complete the form and receive financial aid and update the computer systems used by colleges and universities who process financial aid for your students.
FAFSA or ORSAA, not both Remember, students who are undocumented are not eligible to receive federal financial aid, so they do not complete the FAFSA. These students are eligible to be considered for state and institutional financial aid and complete the ORSAA to access this aid. Students who complete the ORSAA, rather than the FAFSA, will also experience changes, as the ORSAA uses the same information and methodology as the FAFSA.
Simplification and System Updates In addition to simplifying the financial aid formula and FAFSA process, the computer information systems underlying the FAFSA are also being updated.
Everyone is working through change These are big changes for everyone, students, parents, counselors, mentors and financial aid administrators. Thank you for your interest in the changes, and for your continued support and patience as we all work through what the changes mean for everyone.
OASFAA is happy to be your trusted partner in the financial aid process. On behalf of the more than 200 OASFAA members, thank you for taking the time to learn more about the changes to the FAFSA and the ORSAA.
