Learning Outcomes After the end of this lesson, we will be able to- define optative & Exclamatory sentence. identify the structure of changing speech. change speech from direct to indirect.
How can you identify an How can you identify an optative sentence? optative sentence? 1.An optative sentence starts with May / Long live. 2. It ends with full stop (.). Examples: Examples: 1. May you get GPA-5. 2. May Allah help you. 3. Long live our resident 4. Long live my father.
Lets learn the rules of changing speech of Optative Sentence.
Basic Change 1. Said is changed by wished / prayed . 2.Inverted comma is changed by that . 3. May is replaced in past form after subject. 4.The Optative sentence will be transformed in Assertive sentence.
Lets practise. Father said, May Allah increase your knowledge. Father prayed that Allah might increase my knowledge.
The teacher said , Long live my father. The teacher wished that his father might live long.
Defination of Exclamatory Sentence A sentence which expresses a sudden feeling or emotion of the mind is called an Exclamatory sentence.
The symbols of The symbols of E Exclamatory sentence? sentence? xclamatory Exclamatory sentence starts with- 1. Hurrah!/Alas!/ Bravo!/Oh! etc. 2. How/What and ends with exclamation mark (!).

Basic Changes 1. Said is changed by exclaimed with joy/ exclaimed with sorrow/ exclaimed with surprise . 2.Inverted comma is changed by that . 3. What / How/ Hurrah/ Alas/ Oh etc are not used in the sentence.. 4.The Exclamatory sentence will be transformed into Assertive sentence.

The man said , What a fine bird it is ! The man exclaimed with wonder that it wasa very fine bird.
Individual Work Karim said to me, Long live our Headmaster. He said, May Allah grant you. Sumi said to me, How nice your presentation was! Quareeb said to Razu, Hurrah! I have got a prize. Razu said to Rumon, Alas! Your father is no more! Karim wished that their Headmaster might live long. He prayed that Allah might grant me. Sumi exclaimed me with wonder that my presentation had been very nice. Quareeb exclaimed with joy that he had got a prize. Razu exclaimed Rumon with sorrow that his (Rumon) father was no more.
Home work Home work Change the following speech into indirect: 1. Salma said, What a nice bird it was! 2. Baby said to me, How sweetly the birds sing ! 3. I said, Had I the wings of bird ! 4. She said, May you live long! 5. Rumki said, Long live your grandfather.
