Characterization project By: Hailee Harris
Wapoose For my characterization project I chose to do Wapoose from The Animal People Choose a Leader . Wapoose is a character with many characteristics and strengths, which is why I chose her.
Speech Characteristics The first characteristics I identified for Wapoose are determined, courageous and brave. It is not honoring the challenge if I should stop, she said. It is a noble pursuit, and it asks everything I have (Pg. 77) This quote from the story shows that although no one believed in Wapoose, she never doubted herself and she was determined to finish the race. She was brave and had courage in herself when no one else did.
In The Animal People Choose a Leader, the Author never really mentioned what Wapoose was thinking. Wapoose believed if she understood the land and territory, it would make her wiser. Wapoose led them on a path that wound its way gently around and through many barriers (Pg. 79) Thoughts Characteristics This quote shows that Wapoose is trustworthy, independent and steady. Wapoose understood the territory and was able to help the other animals get out steadily and safely while overcoming challenges with each animal.
Not only is Wapoose wise, but she is also strong- willed and confident. I understand that when all our energies are directed towards the same goal, there is no need for one to lead. We can all complete the journey (Pg. 81) Effect on others characterization Wapoose showed the others that when they all work together, they can achieve more and succeed than when they are competeing against one another. Wapoose sees things from a different perspective than all the others, which makes her wise. She was strong- willed and she was confident in herself and others that they could all complete the race together.
Wapoose was humble, mature and honorable. It would be an honor to contest with such magnificent beings (Pg. 76) When all the animals were explaining why they will win the race, Wapoose believed it would be a privilege to contest against these animals. Action Characteristics Wapoose respects her fellow competitors and does not think any negative ideas about the other animals. She puts aside her pride and does not boast about her strengths. Wapoose acknowledges the amount of skill the other animals have and does not try to put them down. This shows that Wapoose is mature and humble about her abilities.
Wapoose was always willing to learn more about the territory and land. This made her curious, composed and thoughtful. She was bright eyed and energetic, and none of her fur had marks of struggle like the others. (Pg. 77) Wapoose was composed because she never struggled or rushed to finish the race and was always willing to learn more. She thought deeply about the land and scenery and was very thoughtful that way. Looks Characteristics This quote from the story describes Wapoose as bright eyed and energetic. I think by being bright eyed, Wapoose is curious about all her surroundings and is fascinated by it all.
I believe that the AWOKAB example that best describes Wapoose is the first one. Learning is connected to land, culture and spirit. We-the two-legged, four-legged, finned and feathered, plants and rocks-are all related. We must always practice reciprocity through acts of giving and receiving I think this one best suits Wapoose because she believes they are all equal and that working together to accomplish their goals is the best thing that everyone can benefit from. Instead of leaving all the animals behind when they were stuck, she helped them out and they each learned a valuable lesson. AWOKAB I understand that when all our energies are directed towards the same goal, there is no need for one to lead. We can all complete the journey
Core competency The core competency I would relate with this story is communication. It is communication because Wapoose had to help each character/ animal out of their situation, and by doing that they all learned something important. She told each of them something valuable and in the end they all knew that working together benefits everyone. If you pass through them one at a time, there is less resistance. Taken together, they are a strong barrier Everything asks sacrifice of us. You must sacrifice your doubt now to help your brother
