  1. Chinese Cultural Diversity SOSC301- Interpersonal and Group Dynamics Victoria Peters 8May 2022 Dr. Dan Barrett

  2. Deliverable Descriptions I am currently enrolled in Bryant and Stratton College obtaining my bachelor s in business administration of Medical Services Management. I am currently employed as a medical biller and coder and receptionist at a small Dermatology practice in Colonial Heights, VA. My career goal is to run a privately owned medical practice myself. My five-year goal is to be the practice manager of an existing office. My ten-year goal is to open my own Endocrinology office in Prince George, VA. I want to do everything from staffing, to billing, supply ordering, to payroll. I have a passion in the medical field, and I see that there is a need in our community for providers who accept Medicaid insurance products and can get patients in quickly. My goal is to open a practice that has availability Monday- Saturday with one or two weeknights available. So many medical conditions are not treated properly or in a timely manner because of access issues and I want to help fix the problem.

  3. Primary Source Selection For this project I plan to interview Dr. Keith Robinson, Doctor of Osteopathy at Complexions Dermatology. Dr. Robinson is an African American Male in mid- 40 s. His ethnicity is Nigerian and Chinese. I chose him because of he is of a different race and sex than I, and it offers me an alternate point of view in my field. The office that Dr. Robinson owns employs 15 individuals: 1 black male, 3 white women, 2 Hispanic women, 2 black women, 2 white males, 3 Hispanic males, and 1 middle eastern woman. There are multiple different cultures and religions at this one employer. The religions of the office vary from Protestant to Catholic to Muslim.

  4. Brief Overview I chose Chinese culture for this portfolio project in hopes to learn more and become better versed in their customs . We see patients of all races , sexes , religions , ages at our dermatology clinic and I Feel like this is one culture that I do not have enough background on . I am 31 years old and was unaware until this year that there are multiple Chinese languages . I have interviewed Dr. Keith Robinson about this culture, and I have pulled details from a few credible resources. Dr. Robinson s mother was born and raised in Laos and didn t move to the United States until she was in her early 20 s. They often speak Chinese at home and dine on authentic Chinese cuisine, so I believe he is a great person to interview in this circumstance.

  5. What I learned Any religion other than Buddhism , Taoism , Islam , Catholicism , and Protestantism are illegal even though the Chinese constitution states that people are allowed freedom of religion There are seven major groups of dialects in the Chinese language , which each have their own variations . Chinese people do not consume a lot o f meat occasionally they will have pork or chicken generally tofu is the main source of protein

  6. Other things to note China is the birthplace of Kung Fu. Chinese people place great importance on family, and family structure. Marriage, family, and children are all extremely important, and many Chinese families' lives revolve solely around the youngest children. Ping pong, also known as table tennis, is the most popular amateur sport in China Tea is the national beverage of China, and in traditional Chinese tea culture the way you drink tea, and which tea you drink, can show your social status.
