  1. Christian Leadership Christian Leadership for the for the 21st Century 21st Century A Sabbath School & Personal Ministries Leadership Training Seminar

  2. What a Leader Must Be Unit 1 The importance of a Christian personality. The importance of a philosophy of ministry. The importance of leadership development.

  3. Counsels From The Bible Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. 1 Peter 4:8

  4. Counsels From The Bible A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. John 13:34, 35.

  5. Counsels From The Bible Therefore, prepare your minds for action. . . Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart . . . Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers. 1 Peter 1: 13, 22; 2:17.

  6. Counsels From Ellen White The strongest argument in favor of the gospel is a loving and lovable Christian. Ministry of Healing, p. 470.

  7. Counsels From Ellen White It is our own character and experience that determine our influence upon others. In order to convince others of the power of Christ's grace, we must know its power in our own hearts and lives. The gospel we present for the saving of souls must be the gospel by which our own souls are saved. Ministry of Healing, p. 469.

  8. Counsels From Ellen White I am sorry that there are those in positions of trust who very sparingly cultivate the sympathy and tenderness of Christ. They do not even cultivate and manifest love toward their brethren and sisters who are in the faith. They do not exercise the precious tact that should bind and heal those who go astray, but instead they exhibit cruelty of spirit, that drives the wanderer still further into the dark, and makes angels weep. Some seem to find a sort of pleasure in bruising and wounding souls who are ready to die. As I look upon men who handle sacred truth, who bear sacred responsibilities, and who are failing to cultivate a spirit of love and tenderness, I feel like crying out, "Turn ye, turn ye; for why will ye die?"--Letter 43, 1895, p. 3 (June 14, 1895 to J. H. Kellogg).

  9. Principle No. 1 In a Christian context, the success of a ministry is to a great extent dependent on the Christian personality of the leader.

  10. Christian Personality Kindness Self- control Faithfulness Joy Patience Gal. 5:22,23 Fruit of the Spirit Love Goodness Peace Gentleness

  11. The Importance of Leadership Development You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men [people] who will also be qualified to teach others. 2 Tim. 2: 1,2.

  12. Planning Wisdom From Living Proverbs 16:9 We should make plans counting on God to direct us. 16:1 We can make our plans, but the final outcome is in God s hands. 18:13 What a shame-yes, how stupid!-to decide before knowing the facts. 15:22 Plans go wrong with too few counselors; many counselors bring success. 18:15 The intelligent man is always open to new ideas. In fact, he looks for them. 13:16 A wise man thinks ahead; a fool doesn t, and even brags about it. 14:8 The wise man looks ahead. The fool attempts to fool himself and won t face facts. 13:19 It is pleasant to see plans develop. That is why fools refuse to give them up, even when they are wrong.

  16. The New Testament Concept of Leadership The New Testament uses the Greek work Doulos as the key word for the kind of leadership it advocates. Doulos literally means "servant" or more specifically "slave."

  17. Wherever the word is used it is with reference to service Doulos Doulos Matt. 8:9 For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, `Go,' and he goes; and that one,`Come,' and he comes. I say to my servant, `Do this,' and he does it. Phil 1:1-6 Rom. 1:1 Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apartfor the gospel of God. Rom. 6:22 But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.

  18. Servant Leadership Servant leadership is the kind of leadership that produces in people a feeling of respect and love for the leader because he or she is doing the will of God and obviously has the best interests of his or her followers at heart.

  19. Servant Leadership "The people will know intuitively whether or not the [leader] loves them. It is a feeling produced by the Holy Spirit Himself within the church. The secular world knows nothing about this, but the church cannot get along without it."C. Peter Wagner, Leading Your Church To Growth, p. 115.

  20. The Nature of a Christian Leaders Authority Mark 9:33-35. It is serving, not commanding. Rom. 12:3. It is being respectful, not looking down on anyone. 1 Peter 5:3. It is being exemplary, not domineering. Rom. 12:10. It is being equal, not superior. Eph. 5:21. It is being mutually submissive, not coercive.

  39. Nurse Leadership Style An attitude of a leader toward his or her followers that represents gentleness and sacrificial service and loving care. The leader gives up rights that may impede the nuture of followers.

  40. Nurse Leadership Style Based on Paul s use of the Greek word trofo;" (trophos) in 1 Thess. 2:7: but we were gentle among you, like a mother caring for her little children. This is the only place in the New Testament where the word is used in this sense. It implies the idea of a mother nursing her children. And the Lord's servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth. 2 Tim. 2:24, 25.

Yes, and I ask you, loyal yokefellow, help these women who have contended at my side in the cause of the gospel . . . Phil 4:2.

Maturity Appeal Leadership Style To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder, a witness of Christ's sufferings and one who also will share in the glory to be revealed: Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, serving as overseers--not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. 1 Peter 5:1-3.

  50. Confrontation Leadership Style This style brings the problem out in the open, analyzes it, and attempts to get everyone to accept a solution I plead with Euodia and I plead with Syntyche to agree with each other in the Lord.
