  2. God: New Birth Our Witness Outsiders The Church Local Body Me Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. (Col. 4:5) So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. (Rom. 12:5) PRIDE & CONFIDENCE 2 11/15/17 2

  4. THE.CHURCH.AND.ITS.CONDITION Come back to a lamb; come back to be gentle; come back to know nothing; come back to just submit yourself to Christ. Don't try, don't try to know nothing. Just walk meekly, quietly, humbly, gently, and the Dove will lead you. But whenever you go listening to that gossip, whenever you go to getting that temper up, whenever you go to thinking you got a right to do this and do that, the Dove just takes Her flight and goes on away. Then you don't have It any more. Now, she's not very far from you this morning, church. She's setting right out there on the limb of peace, waiting for your nature to be changed. Amen. 56-0805 PRIDE & CONFIDENCE 2 11/15/17 4

  5. PSALM 26:9-12 9 Gather not my soul with sinners, nor my life with bloody men: 10 In whose hands is mischief, and their right hand is full of bribes. 11 But as for me, I will walk in mine integrity: redeem me, and be merciful unto me. 12 My foot standeth in an even place: in the congregations will I bless the LORD. PRIDE & CONFIDENCE 2 11/15/17 5

  6. Pride vs Confidence Pride Proverbs 16:18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. 19 better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

  7. GO.TELL.MY.DISCIPLES 93 Mary Magdalene, she'd knew His power. She knew there was something about Him was different from anyone else She had seven devils cast out of her: pride and envy, and she thought she was so pretty and there was no one like her. But when Jesus spoke and said, "Be thou clean," all that left her. She become a new person. She wasn't so pretty any more in her own sight. But she wrapped herself in the robe of meekness and gentleness, and followed the Master. She loved Him. 53-0405 PRIDE & CONFIDENCE 2 11/15/17 7

  8. Pride (w) Implies an unduly favorable idea of one's own appearance, advantages, achievements, etc., and often applies to offensive characteristics. Pride is a lofty and often arrogant assumption of superiority in some respect. The proud person has difficulty with others since he or she does not react well to feedback. 10. II TIMOTHY 3:1-5 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. Highminded: (Gr.) Tuphoo Metaph. to make proud, puff up with pride, render insolent; to be puffed up with haughtiness or pride; to blind with pride or conceit, to render foolish or stupid. PRIDE & CONFIDENCE 2 11/15/17 10

  11. DOOR.TO.THE.HEART 17 Oh, we Christians, though alienated from the world, and we are heaven-bound subjects of the Lord Jesus, we should conduct ourselves as sons and daughters of God. Pride keeps us from doing it. We're afraid somebody will say something against us. When the spirit blesses, many are ashamed to say "Amen." There is many who in their office work, the Lord Jesus could have healed them of diseases, and they're afraid to testify to the glory of God because of pride. Many are afraid to stand and say, "I have received Christ as my personal Saviour and been filled with the Holy Spirit.": ashamed. Pride, oh, what a great thing that is. 58-0112 PRIDE & CONFIDENCE 2 11/15/17 11

  12. LUKE 22:24-27 And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest. 25 And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors. 26 But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve. 27 For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth. 11/15/17 PRIDE & CONFIDENCE 2 12

  13. Example: LUKE 18:9-14 9 And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: 10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. 11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. 12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. PRIDE & CONFIDENCE 2 11/15/17 13

  14. ECCLESIASTES 7:8 Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit (slow to anger) is better than the proud in spirit. PROVERBS 16:5 Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished. Abomination:(Heb.) tow'ebah A disgusting thing, abominable; In a ritual sense: unclean food, idols, mixed marriages; wickedness. PRIDE & CONFIDENCE 2 11/15/17 16

  15. LEVITICUS 18:22-30 22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. 23 Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion. 24 Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you: 25 And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants. PRIDE & CONFIDENCE 2 11/15/17 17

  16. 26 Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you: 27 (For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is defiled ) 30 Therefore shall ye keep mine ordinance, that ye commit not any one of these abominable customs, which were committed before you, and that ye defile not yourselves therein: I am the LORD your God. 11/15/17 PRIDE & CONFIDENCE 2 18

  17. JAMES 4:6-7 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. I PETER 5:5-6 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: PRIDE & CONFIDENCE 2 11/15/17 19

  18. Example: ACTS 12:20-24 And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: but they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king's chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was nourished by the king's country. 21 And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them. 22 And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man. 23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost. 24 But the word of God grew and multiplied. PRIDE & CONFIDENCE 2 11/15/17 20

  19. Humble: (Gr.) tapeinoo To assign a lower rank or place to; to abase; to be ranked below others who are honoured or rewarded; to humble or abase myself by humble living. To lower, depress: one's soul bring down one's pride; to have a modest opinion of one's self, to behave in an unassuming manner, devoid of all haughtiness. PRIDE & CONFIDENCE 2 11/15/17 21

  20. INFLUENCE 37 Uzziah held this standard. He was a great influence, to Isaiah the prophet. And then Uzziah made that fatal mistake, just like many other people does. When he got, felt secured, felt that he just had the whole thing in his hand, he got lifted up in his spirit. He got lifted up to pride. Now, there's a real example for us all. You know, that's been the trouble. I'm speaking to Christians and ministers And just that's where many ministers even make a mistake. PRIDE & CONFIDENCE 2 11/15/17 22

  21. I think sometimes, them are good men, a won- derful Christian that's been used of the Lord. And then finally they get a little kingdom built around them, or a lot of influence, many people attending their meetings, until they get careless, and they get kinda lifted up. The people applaud them, stand up, we shouldn't really do that. We, remember there's no big people among us. Why, we're all just God's children. If God made some of us one thing and some another, He made me with a finger and an eye, we got to appreciate each other, and then not try to feel big. Because we're all connected together to one God and we all come off of one tree. 11/15/17 63-1114 PRIDE & CONFIDENCE 2 23

  22. LUKE 7:36-50 And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat. 37 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, 38 And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment. 39 Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner. 11/15/17 PRIDE & CONFIDENCE 2 24

  23. MARK 7:1-5 Then came together unto him the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, which came from Jerusalem. 2 And when they saw some of his disciples eat bread with defiled, that is to say, with unwashen, hands, they found fault. 3 For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands oft, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders. 4 And when they come from the market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have received to hold, as the washing of cups, and pots, brasen vessels, and of tables. 5 Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands? PRIDE & CONFIDENCE 2 11/15/17 25

  24. MARK 7:17-23 17 And when he was entered into the house from the people, his disciples asked him concerning the parable. 18 And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him; 19 Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats? 20 And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. 21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: 23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man. PRIDE & CONFIDENCE 2 11/15/17 26

  25. Search Me, O God Search me, O god, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: 24 and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Psalm 139:23-24
