Converting information from Old 678 to 670 DCM Z1 678 Biographical or historical data:the last paragraph Previously used to preserve useful biographical/historical information pertaining to the 1XX when manual NARs and SARs were converted to machine-readable form When adding biographical or historical information to NARs, the 678 note field should be upgraded to contain full sentences. Recording Numbers in AAP: Armed Force RDA 11.2.2.22.1 Armed Force: If the component branch, etc., is identified by a number, follow the style of numbering found in the name (spelled out, roman numerals, or Arabic numerals). If the number occurs at the beginning of the name of the component branch, etc., place the numbering after the name, preceded by a comma. Recording Numbers in AAP: Armed Force (2) However, Note the different practice for U.S. Military: LC-PCC PS: Numbered U.S. Military Units If a component branch, command unit, or military unit of a United States military service is numbered, use Arabic ordinal numerals in the authorized access point. If the form of numbering found on the item being cataloged differs from the form used in the authorized access point, consider making a variant access point substituting the found form of numbering. Recording a City Section: LC-PCC PS & DCM Z1 LC-PCC PS 16.2.2.14: For places within cities, add the city in parentheses. Use the access point reflecting its current status for the entire period of the place within the city s existence, including any earlier independent existence it may have had, provided the name remains constant (see RDA 11.3.3.4 and RDA 11.13.1.3). Consider making a variant access point from the name of the place within the city as a subheading of the name of the city. See Descriptive Cataloging Manual Z1 667 for providing a note indicating that an authorized access point for a name of a city section, neighborhood, district, etc., is not appropriate for use as a geographic subdivision. Example: 151 Dongcheng Qu (Beijing, China) 4101 Beijing (China). b Dongcheng Qu 667 SUBJECT USAGE: This heading is not valid for use as a geographic subdivision. 12

Recording a City Section in China: an Old Instruction Romanization Guidelines for Chinese Geographic Names (last updated 2007) https://www.loc.gov/catdir/pinyin/romx113.pdf Qualifiers for Qu : Due to the name changes of subordinate jurisdictions such as Xian , and even smaller Shi , to Qu . It is appropriate for the heading for a Qu to be qualified by the name of the larger Shi, but no x-ref. should be given from the heading for the Shi under LCRI 23.4F2 (because technically it is not the heading for a city). Delete such references when they are encountered. Example: place name appears in title as: heading: Weiyang Qu (Xi an Shi, China) delete reference: Xi an Shi (China). If there is more than one such term, use the one that is most often associated with the name or the one that is considered to be more important. Use spellings found in dictionaries in a language preferred by the agency creating the data. If a title, term of address, etc., has become an integral part of the name, treat it as such.
