Overview Background Seed Money Project Towards a New Proposal Roadmap Call
Background 2011: Call for projects for the Roadmap Large Research Infrastructures CLARIN-NL and DARIAH-NL join forces submit a single common proposal: CLARIAH with participation of/support by all humanities faculties with support by a large set of public and private organisations
Background Feb 2012: CLARIAH-proposal put on the roadmap does not get the requested funding, but receives 1 million euro `seed money to maintain the consortium s dynamics , and to prepare a new, improved, proposal in the next round Next round was announced to be in 2014 Our plans Start in autumn 2012 actual work in 2013 + first half 2014 New proposal by Sep 2014.
Seed Money Project In november 2012 NWO changed its planning Submission new proposal: 1 Oct 2013. What we did so far set up an executive board and a board appointed a project leader (Patricia Alkhoven) selected candidates for demonstrators and invited selected researchers to submit project proposals Project proposals were reviewed by board and executive board Revised proposals submitted and approved Demonstrator projects all started Started preparations for new proposal

Demonstrator Projects Criteria for Selection must yield a convincing demonstrator of functionality that CLARIAH aims to offer where possible based on independently financed projects (synergy) proper balance over the project among the different data types (text, structured data, audio- visual) high quality proposal

Towards a New Proposal Comments by the Committee Focus (+ suggestion of incremental extension) Governance Justification budget Other comments ensure inclusion of top quality ICT, and describe this explicitly in the proposal using objective criteria
Focus Focus on Linguistics (text) Social-economic History (structured data) Media Studies (audio-visual) For each, identify top researcher(s), top ICT er, top Data provider important research questions CLARIAH is supposed to solve Secondary disciplines where appropriate Status: is currently being elaborated
Governance New Governance Proposal adopted strongly based on CLARIN-NL governance sharpened it a bit Status: basic set-up agreed upon global description will be prepared for proposal text details will be worked out in a consortium agreement
Justification Budget Work on that is starting Specific aspects to be worked out by working groups set up and led by a selected expert More on this will follow in the coming month
Roadmap Call Call is open since March 6, 2013. Submission date: Oct 1, 2013 11:59hrs (just before noon) Open only to projects on the roadmap (29) Template, procedure similar to last time except for site visit Procedure and Timing: see next slide If awarded, start date will be Jan 1, 2015.
