Class 4 Gambling Review
Class 4 Gambling Review December 2015: Regional approach was proposed and DIA sought agreement to consult with stakeholders and go to Cabinet. November 2015: DIA developed options for a C4 review - no sector input was sought at this time September2015: Cabinet agreed to a broad review of class 4 gambling sector February 2016: DIA listened to stakeholders and took all options off the table and started the review with a clean slate January 2016: DIA informed the sector of the proposals April-June 2016: DIA worked with sector to: rebuild relationships and get a good understanding of stakeholder perspectives; discussion document was developed from stakeholder discussions; published discussion document March 2016: Cabinet agreedto the next phase of the review being: consultation with the sector to discus the review findings to date; gather evidence on the current and potential future state of the class 4 sector; and develop a range of options for potential reform of the sector, with an objective of maximising community benefit July - November 2016: Close to 800 submissions were received; analysis of submissions Minister has advised he wants DIA to take a purposeful approach with stakeholders and no changes will occur prior to election Next steps: DIA will continue to work with stakeholders and the Minister to develop next steps of the review. Review Objectives Cabinet agreed to a broad review of class 4 gambling sector to: Long-term sustainability and effective allocation of funding to communities without driving a growth in gambling; Fit-for-purpose legislation; Cost-effective regulation of the sector; and Preventing and minimising harm.
