The play Blood Brothers explores themes such as class divide, family dynamics, superstition, and fate through the presentation of characters from different social backgrounds. The interactions between working-class characters speaking in Liverpool dialect and middle-class characters in Standard English highlight societal contrasts, while the characters' upbringing and attitudes towards rules further emphasize the theme of nature versus nurture.

  3. The toy guns themselves aren't really the problem, according to a 2003 article published in "Paediatrics," but the attitudes and perception of guns that children receive from parents and other authority figures are the problem. The toy guns themselves don't necessarily pose a risk, it's the way that toy guns are used and how children are taught to play with them that can become a problem.

  4. Mickey Cos me mam says. Edward Well, my mummy doesn t allow me to play down here actually.

  5. The working class characters speak in Liverpool dialect, which makes them sound natural, warm and likeable. The middle class characters speak in Standard English, with Received Pronunciation this is the cause of humour when the boys first meet.

  6. Class divide Family Growing up Superstition and Fate Hopes and Dreams Nature versus Nurture Love and Marriage If both boys are playing where they are not supposed to, what theme/s could we link this with?

  7. First impressions Use the information we have discussed to write about character presentation For example The meeting of Mickey and Edward is a significant one in the play and shows their different upbringing, when Edward invites Mickey to play, his response that he can t: Cos me mam says. and Edward s Well, my mummy doesn t allow me to play down here actually. shows the audience that both boys are showing similarities (disobeying their mothers orders). The words Mam and Mother also highlight the cultutral difference, even though the meeting is humorous and entertaining, the difference in dialect/accent shows the class divide within the city, yet the boys are brothers and should be viewed the same.
