  2. To-do list for today 1. Look at HSPT test results 1. Understand graduation requirements/four year plan. 1. Learn about course options 1. Select courses- turn in selections by March 3.

  3. HSPT used for placement exam 1. Cognitive Skills God-given talent and ability Includes a Verbal and Quantitative score based off reasoning skills. Total = CSQ Cognitive Skills Quotient 2. Basic Skills Includes 3 tests in Reading, Math and Language. Two norm groups NP= National Percentile (*scholarship and recommendations) LP= Local Percentile (test date cohort)

  4. How do we recommend classes? National percentiles used in Reading, Math & Language along with the cognitive skill scores. CSQ= Cognitive Skills Quotient (range: 70-140) aprox 100 = middle of the road aprox 115 and up = honors courses aprox 90 and down = possible added support We recommend your courses based on history of these test scores. We HIGHLY suggest trusting our recommendations.

  5. Graduation Requirements 4 credits (8 semesters) Theology English 3 credits Math (4 for college prep) Science Social Studies 2 credits World Language 2 years of the same World Language 1.5 credits PE Physical Education/Health 1 credit Fine Arts/Performing Arts Catholic Outreach (service hours) Credit Speech DCA (Digital Creative Applications) Personal Finance STEM 4 Credits Individual Focus TOTAL = 27.5 Credits needed for graduation

  6. What does a credit mean? Credit is earned each semester when a grade of 67% or higher is achieved. WE USE PERCENTAGE GRADES VS LETTERS. Every semester class = .5 credit 7 classes each semester = 3.5 credits or 7 credits for the year. *PE + Health class =1 , Fresh = 7.5 credits

  7. Course selection sheet Take out your YELLOW Counselor Recommendation Sheet that I marked. Make final selections by marking it on the PURPLE course selection sheet with a printed label. You will turn this back in by March 3

  9. English (4 credits to graduate) All English courses have the Honors option to prep for college credit. H English 1 or English 1 H English 2 or English 2 AP Language & Composition or English 3 H English 4 (JCCC Dual Enrollment), AP Lit & Comp or English 4

  10. Select your English class pg 17 English 1- covers 3 major works Honors English 1- cover 5 major works & more analytical reading/writing (Reading > 78, Language and Verbal > 70. CSQ 115 and up). Summer reading assignments for all!

  12. Select your science class Biology Honors Biology Prerequisite: Concurrent enrollment in Honors English 1 & recommended H Algebra 1 or higher.

  13. World Language (2 credits of the same language) The modern world languages offered are French, German and Spanish. Latin 1 Latin 2 Optional Modern 1 Modern 2

  14. Choose your foreign language class French I Taking a full year of Spanish 1? Can take Soph & Junior year German I Latin I Spanish I Placement test March 26 @ 3:45 March 29 @ 9:45

Math pg 40 (4 credits to graduate) Algebra 1/Math Lab Algebra 1 Honors Algebra 1 AP Precalculus with Trigonometry Algebra 3 with Trigonometry College Algebra with Trigonometry Honors Algebra 1 Honors Geometry AP Statistics *Dual Enroll CC Honors Algebra 2 & H Geometry 1.5 credits Algebra 2 Honors Algebra 2 AP Calculus AB Practical Geometry Geometry Honors Geometry Honors Geometry & Algebra 2 AP Calculus BC

Algebra placement test: March 26 @ 3:45 pm or March 29 @ 8:00 am Geometry test out: April 2 @ 3:45 **MARK ON YOUR SELECTION SHEET Review packets are online under Academic Counseling.

  17. Social Studies (3 credits to graduate) World History or AP World History- Grade 10 American History or AP Am History or H Am History- Grade 11 Gov or AP Govt/ Social Studies elective- Grade 12 *Cultural Studies option for 9th

  18. Physical Education/Health (1.5 credit to graduate) 1 semester of PE/Health is required- 9thgrade = 1 credit Girls PE 1 & Health Boys PE 1 & Health Girls PE 1 Weights & Health Boys PE 1 Weights & Health Boys FB PE 1 & Health/FB Wts = 1.5 credits FB Wts 9 is suggested if you play FB. It is an elective class (.5 ) **PE 1/Health is available in summer school.

  19. Technology class (.5 credit to graduate) Digital Creative Applications (.5 credits) Includes a Digital Citizenship course taken by all Freshman Develop skills using creative software -Adobe Creative Cloud NEW: AP Computer Science Principles after DCA

  20. Speech (1/2 credit to graduate) Forensics Competitive Non-Competitive Speech * Offered in summer school

  21. Add up your total credits Most have 6.5 credits. Choose 1 additional credit to total 7.5 credits for the year. Speech or Fine Arts Guided Studies recommended?

  26. Steps to Access Academic Support 1. Turn in the following: a. Current Plan (IEP, 504, CSSSP) b.Diagnostic Evaluation 1. If documentation has been turned in, you will be contacted for a meeting prior to the start of school. 1. If documentation still needs to be turned in, please email hwolf@stasaints.net.

  27. Academic Support Classes Guided Studies - May be a required course for academic support. Includes study skills and homework time. Math Lab May be a required course for Algebra 1 support. **BOTH count as an elective
