CLIC Information: Information Hierarchy: ~> overlap may happen but one is used as input for the next higher level E.g. 37 , C, body, temperature, Alemu: ~ Data; The body temperature of Alemu is 37 C. ~ Information; The body temperature of a healthy person is 37 C (experimentally proven). ~ Knowledge; Under certain circumstances the body temperature of a person can be slightly less or more than 37 C while still being healthy. :Knowledge + Experience: ~ Wisdom Forms/formats of Info: Text/Hypertext, Audio and Video Why we need information? to make informed decision/ take appropriate (effective, efficient, productive) actions
CLIC IT: Information Technology = Information (related data) the technology that can help gather, process, display (immediate use), store (for further processing or later use), disseminate the processed data (related data)-> And it Consists of Mainly Computers (Desktop Computers, Laptop Computers TC, Smart Phones, Servers) and Networking Infrastructure (Interconnecting Devices: Switch, Router, WAP (WiFi); Server Computers; Other Telecommunication Devices) Learning/ Training Modules: materials from which people (cooperatives members) can learn and apply their knowledge to improve their production and productivity
CLIC? CLIC: to facilitate exchange of cooperatives information and learning/ training modules centrally One of the approaches to do so: to use web-based application that can easily be accessed (by all users: clients: Cooperatives/Members, Gov t Bodies, Researchers, Dev t Partners) and updated (by authorized users)-> here we use FCA s website [www.fca.gov.et] as a platform for exchange of cooperatives information and learning/training modules Website: Static and Dynamic (requires CMS + DB {freely available popular CMSs, e.g. joomla and word press or develop your own}) Concerns to make use of Website/Web apps: Convenience, Security (make sure to keep balance between Consistency, Integrity and Availability) personnel to keep the system up-to-date, {Website/Web App Development [JAD Session: Clients, Users and Developers meet regularly to agree upon RSD], Deployment (Domain Name , e.g. www.fca.gov.et [provided by ethio telecom], Hosting [use your own server or buy the service from web hosting service provider] ), and Maintenance [Web Admin/ Web Master]}
Overview of Web apps Web-based applications architecture Internet/ Intranet Why do we invest on web app development while we can find plenty of materials/ information over the Internet/Web, and hence concern only on connectivity/Internet? : we can rarely find the info we are looking for in a form exactly we want it; to make our information management efficient and fast; to get Readily-Available Consumable Info, rather the world expects the specific information that can easily explain things in our domain.
Sensed Problems: Absence of Information Expert(s) and Absence of Reliable, Consistent, up-to- date Information Absence of IT Infrastructure and IT Experts Recommendations: Working on Information and IT as key strategic issues (as the 5th strategic issue [reinforcement, market share, saving and investment, and legitimacy and safeguarding, IT Supported Information]): could be handled by FCA and Regions Rich Content/ Rich Information Source: Experts on all areas Coping-up with Dynamism of IT: IT Experts Training and Capacity Building: Development Partners
