Importance of Strategic Planning Importance of Strategic Planning An associations high level road map to achieving their goals and objectives. It is the associations plan for how they aim to improve their performance i.e. financially, operationally etc. Associations that have strategic plans in place are more successful than those that do not. No strategic planning = No direction Failing to plan is planning to fail
BACKGROUND TO THE BACKGROUND TO THE PROGRAMME PROGRAMME Since 2008 the official GAA Club Planning Programme has helped approximately 1,000 clubs. Planning can help Clubs to: Reflect on why it exists, what it aspires to be and what it believes in. Decide on the areas of activity that it wants to, or needs to focus on. Agree on the key projects it will pursue. Devise a practical Club Development Plan for carrying out these projects.

Writing the Plan Drafting the Plan Launching the Plan Drafting the plan 1. Plan analysed under the S.C.O.R.E. Framework 2. Template reviewed and ensure key sections are included 3. Drafts reviewed both internally and externally 4. Copies of the draft sent on to the facilitator before the final review and eventual sign-off is completed by the Club Executive Launching the plan 1. An opportunity for the Club to announce it to the wider community 2. The contents of the plan is the vision the Club has to be shared in a positive and engaging way 3. Ensure copies of the plan are available for distribution especially digital versions
Achieving Results Plan Implementation Reviewing the Plan Implementation Report: Regardless of the Club s intentions going forward, a comprehensive and robust review of the Plan needs to be conducted. Duties of the Club Plan Implementation Committee: Deciding on priorities Delegating tasks Creating Work Plans Raising awareness of the Plan Monitoring and measuring progress Reporting on progress to the Club Executive Committee and the Club AGM
