  1. C-FC Pirates 2021-2022 All Athletics Meeting Co-Curricular Handbook

  2. Cochrane-Fountain City Co- Curricular Code ? The C-FC Co-Curricular Code: Please take the time to review the entire code, which can be found on pages 21-26 of the Student Handbook.

  3. Philosophy Statement ? It is the philosophy of the Cochrane-Fountain City Co-Curricular Activities to provide a learning experience of the activity that will enhance the classroom teaching of the district. Coaches are to be teachers of the activity rather than participant selectors of the activity.

  4. Co-Curricular Activities ? Co-curricular activities include the following activities and any other activities that the C-FC Board of Education considers to be a co- curricular activity. ? Category I - Athletics, Dance Team, Trap Shooting ? Category II - FBLA, FFA, Forensics, Drama, Robotics, Jazz Band, Jazz Choir, Pep Band, Student Council, and National Honor Society.

  5. Participant Privileges ? Involvement in District Athletics is a privilege not a right.

  6. ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY ? Must maintain passing grade in all subjects each grade reporting period. Grade reporting periods will be at mid semester and at the completion of each semester for grades 9-12 and at the end of each quarter for grades 6-8. ? Any participant who receives a failing grade will be ineligible practice and competition. ? A participation who fails one or more classes at a designated reporting period is ineligible for 15 consecutive school days and nights. Eligibility is reinstated on the 16th day. If student is not passing all classes, he/she is ineligible until the next grade period.

  7. ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY ? If a student fails one or more Spring semester classes he/she shall be ineligible for competition in fall sports for 21 calendar weekdays from the first scheduled practice ? Students in grades 6, 7, and 8 with one or more failing grades at the end of fourth quarter will be ineligible for competition for the first two contests they participate in. ? Students may erase ineligibility status for fall sports by successfully completing summer school classes for not less than the same courses that caused the ineligibility.

  8. Athletic Trainer ? Winona Health Sports Medicine is available 2 days a week throughout the school year. Usually Tuesdays and Thursdays ? Goal is to keep athletes playing. Going to the AT does not mean you are out ? Earlier we know about the injury or pain the more we can do to help. ? To make an appointment please contact your coach or the athletic director.

  9. IMPACT TESTING All 7th, 9th, and 11th graders need to take their baseline Impact test before they are able to practice. Test is good for 2 years All 6th grade athletes need to take the test who are going out for Cross Country, Wrestling, Track or golf. They will take it again next years 7th graders. If you didn't take the test last year you will need to take the baseline test this year. WIAA offers concussion insurance (forms on their website)

  10. Bus Transportation ? Every participant is to ride to and from activities with school unless participant has written permission from his/her parent guardian which includes signing out with the coach/advisor. ? Unusual circumstances must be cleared by the AD by end of school day prior to activity. ? Returning co-curricular participants are to be picked up in a timely manner following the arrival back at school. We recommend that rides be here within ten minutes of the return time from an activity.

  11. Attendance Policy ? Students must be on time for and attend school for the entire school day to participate in any school activity that evening, including practices and games. Pre-excused or medical appointments with documentation are the only exceptions. Attendance is reviewed daily by the Athletic Director.

  12. Playing Time ? Coach s discretion based on, but not limited to: Coachability Attitude Practice habits Practice/game attendance Game knowledge Game skills

  13. WIAA Amateur Status ? A student-athlete may not accept cash or merchandise awards for achievement in athletics. ? They may receive an award which is symbolic in nature. For example trophies, medals, ribbons, event t-shirts, games balls, etc.

  14. WIAA: Non-School Participation Student-athletes may not participate in non-school competition during the school season in the same respective sport. There is a WIAA waiver for exceptions. Must see Athletic Director Participation in All Star Games are only allowed after a student-athletes senior year is complete

  15. WIAA RULES ? Age Age 19 before August 1 of any given school year Junior high may not compete at high school level ? Minimum days of practice ? Maximum number of participation Seasonal Daily

  16. ATHLETIC FORMS Forms need to be turned in before a student can participate in athletics: ? Physical or Alternate Year Form ? Student-Family Handbook Acknowledgement Form ? Emergency Contact Form ? Concussion Agreement Form

  17. Physicals or Alternate Year Cards Physical Form - Every other year typically 7th, 9th, 11thgrades WIAA cuts off their Physical Date at April 1. Alternate Year Card Required in years when a physical is not typically 8th, 10th, and 12thgrades Need parent/guardian signature

  18. Activity Fees $35.00 Per Activity Can be paid all at once or seasonally $105.00 Student Maximum $150.00 Family Maximum Students/Families eligible for free and reduced lunch may have the activity fee waived. Please inquire in the office for an application form.

  19. rSchool Today- Athletic Schedules 1.) Go to https://www.dairylandconference.org/public/genie/621/school/4/ 2.) Click on Notify Me on the right side. 3.) Enter your email address and password and click on Create Account. 4.) Enter your Name, Last Name, Mobile Number, Mobile Provider and select Who Are You. 5.) Click Save and Continue 6.) Select the activities you want to subscribe and click Continue To Next Step. 7.) Select from the drop down of each activity to choose how many hours, days or weeks you would want to receive a reminder before each activity. Select the Yes or No option if you would want to receive a notification whenever there is a change of schedule. 8.) Click Save My Settings.

  20. Locker Rooms ? Cell phones must be turned off and stowed and cannot be used while in the locker room or any other changing area. ? Each athlete is given a combination lock and locker for their belongings. It is the responsibility of the student to lock up all belongings. ? Many visiting teams has use of our locker rooms during games.

  21. Participant Conduct and Penalties ? Co-curricular code is enforced year-round throughout a student s tenure at CFC

  22. Participant Conduct and Penalties ? A participant may not: Drink alcoholic beverages Smoke or chew tobacco products Use any vape devices, electronic cigarettes, JUUL electronic vape devices or look-alikes. Use any drugs other than those prescribed or over the counter KNOWINGLY or UNKNOWINGLY possess, handle, purchase or transport these products Participate in hazing activities Be involved in any other immoral or unacceptable conduct contrary to the ideals, principles, and standards of the school

  23. Methods Used to Identify Students in Violation of Code Written and signed report from a witness filed within 1 week of infraction ? Student admission of violation: student initiates the admission or admits to the violation upon being questioned by school personnel, which allows the student to be eligible for a reduced option discipline. ? Student self referral: a student who refers himself to the counselor and who is making satisfactory progress in following the counselor's recommendations is not liable to formal suspension from school, athletics, or co-curricular activities for undocumented violations prior to self referral. ? Referral by a student s parent ?

  24. Due Process ? Step II - Determination by Principal and Athletic Director ? Step III - Appeal to Activity Council Must be filed within one school day ? Step IV - Appeal to School Board

  25. Violation Penalties First Violation OPTION I: Athlete is suspended from 33 percent of the athletic contests in his/her current sports season(s). Must complete 8 hours community service and 4 hours counseling.

  26. ? OPTION II: (reduced) Athletes who are eligible for the Reduced Option Discipline program will be suspended for 20 percent of the athletic contests in his/her current sports season. Within TWO weeks the athlete must complete (6) hours of community service and (2) hours of counseling before being reinstated. Community service and counseling must be arranged by the student and approved by the activities director or building administrator. Failure to complete the program will revert back to the penalty under Option I of First Violation.

  27. First Violation Other Penalties Other Penalties Athletes who incur first violation during a sport season shall not be eligible to receive any award for that sports season other than a letter, numeral or participation certificate. Should an athlete incur his/her first violation out-of-season, he/she will not be eligible for any award other than a letter, numeral or participation certificate during his/her next season.

  28. Second Violation ? OPTION I: The athlete is suspended for one full sports season. Should the athlete s violation occur while the student is not involved in a sport, the athlete is suspended from participation in the next athletic season in which he/she had participated previously. The student athlete will also complete (8) hours of community service and (4) hours of counseling before being reinstated. Community service and counseling must be arranged by the student and approved by the athletic director or building administrator.

  29. ? OPTION II: (reduced) Athletes who are eligible for the Reduced Option Discipline program will be suspended for 50 percent of the athletic contests in his/her current sports season. Within FOUR weeks the athlete must complete (6) hours of community service and (2) hours of counseling before being reinstated. Community service and counseling must be arranged by the student and approved by the activities director or building administrator. Failure to complete the program will revert back to the penalty under Option I of Second Violation.

  30. Second Violation Other Penalties ? Other Penalties Athletes who experience two violations during their career shall not be eligible for consideration of any award other than a letter, numeral or participation certificate for the remainder of his/her career. ? Other awards include but are not limited to All Conference, MVP, Captain, Outstanding Leadership, Class or Activity Officer, Activity Plaque or any other honorary awards.

  31. Third Violation ? The student is suspended from athletic activities for one calendar year from the date of notification of the violation. The student must complete (8) hours of community service and (4) hours of counseling before being reinstated. Community service and counseling must be arranged by the student and approved by the athletic director or building administrator. The student will have four weeks from the date the school is notified of the violation to complete community service and counseling.

  32. Fourth Violation ? The student is suspended from co-curricular activities for the rest of his/her high school career or until he/she has had two violation-free calendar years. The student must complete (8) hours of community service and (4) hours of counseling before being reinstated. Community service and counseling must be arranged by the student and approved by the athletic director or building administrator. The student will have four weeks from the date the school is notified of the violation to complete community service and counseling.

  33. Additional Violation Provisions ? Violations of a student in 7th or 8th grade will not follow to the high school (9-12) level. The 8th grade student will, however, complete any discipline assigned due to code violation before participating in any sports in ninth grade. ? In the event of student conduct which is unacceptable in or out of school which makes the student unqualified to represent the ideals, principles and standards for C-FC Schools, penalties will be at the discretion of the Activity Council. ? A violation results in student ineligible for royalty court for one calendar year. A second violation results in permanently ineligible for royalty court.

  34. Pirate Pride ? Issues - misunderstandings If misunderstandings occur, athletes ask the coach. If still misunderstanding parents ask the coach. Come to the Athletic Director with any problems after the athlete and parents have contacted the coach. Coaches should not be approached with questions until the next day after a contest as emotions are usually pretty high. Let cooler heads prevail.

  35. BOOSTER CLUB ? If you have a child that is in athletics you need to become part of the CFC booster club. Contact: Christy Foley kzcdfoley@gmail.com 507-450-3669 ? Booster club has funded/helped fund many sports @ CFC. Middle School Padding Overnight Trips when requested Padded Chairs in HS Gym Softball Net Baseball/Softball Weighted Tarps

  36. Wednesday @ CFC Students will be done with school at 2:58pm Teachers who are coaches will not be available until 4pm Coaches who are not teachers can practice right after school Assistant coaches will run practice if other coaches are having meetings This does not pertain to JH athletics
