National Priorities Kiribati National Fisheries Policy and the Kiribati 20-year Vison (KV20) Maximize economic growth, create wealth and employment through sustainable fisheries development and aquaculture Ensure long term conservation and management of fisheries resources to secure food security and sustainable livelihoods Strengthen national capacity to implement and support fisheries management and development

Current Activities Fisheries Development Upgrading of fish centers from single phase to 3 phase solar system Traditional paddling canoe project Boat and engine project FAD program Maritime safety program (NZ) Sandfish community farming trial Milkfish spawning and pond revival program Cage farming trial Tobwan Waara program (NZ) Longline fishing vessel project Fishing trial using the Okeanos canoe as mother boat

  4. Current Activities Fisheries Management Community Based Fisheries Management (Australian Government) Resource assessment and MPA establishment (LDCF) Establishment of the MCS unit within the Coastal Fisheries Division Drafting of Coastal Fisheries Regulation
