Report to the Statistical Commission 2019, 2021 and 2023 Task team meetings Face to face technical meeting once a year Electronic discussion forum

  3. City Group Working Methods Report of the Bureau on working methods: Review of the city group mechanism Other international organizations have also played a role in the city group mechanism. Many city groups seem to have been successful in working with international agencies and expert groups to integrate the city groups work into the international system The global statistical system is characterized by the voluntary cooperation between Member States Inclusiveness and collective ownership are of critical importance in developing Standards For many city groups representation from the full spectrum of national statistical offices is still a problem. This seems to be due to one or more of the following reasons: inadequate travel funds; the predominant use of English by city groups and the insufficient numbers of staff with required expertise.

Advice from Washington and PRAIA City Groups Steering group crucial membership structure, representation from each major region; Regular conference calls; Long range plan / timeline; Advises workgroups; Approves reports to UNSC. Lack of finance can be a barrier The voluntary nature means that raising country awareness is not easy Email communication tends to be less effective Annual meeting organised around topical papers 3 day meeting plenty of discussion, country experiences and next steps It is useful to join up with other City groups to learn from each other Secretariat role is really important central contact, maintain website, UNSC reports, etc
