CONCURRENT VS DUAL ENROLLMENT Concurrent Enrollment: when a high school student takes a college class from an approved high school teacher. The teacher must have specific credentials that the college requires. Dual Enrollment: when a high school student takes a college class from a college instructor.

DUAL ENROLLMENT: HOW IT BEGAN & WHERE WE ARE Spring 2009: We contacted KCKCC to see if they would be interested in sending instructors to our building to teach classes to high school students. Fall 2009: We offered our first dual college classes in the high school building, which included Public Speaking and Macroeconomics. After that, the other high schools in the area jumped on board. BENEFITS OF THE PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN PHS AND KCKCC Affordability-KCKCC costs $71/hour, so a 3 hour class = $213. KU costs $278/hour, so a 3 hour class = $834. Tuition Assistance-KCKCC allocated $2500 to PHS this school year to be used for tuition for students who qualify for F/R lunch. Convenience-The college sends the instructors to our building to teach the class within our bell schedule. Cost Effective-We can offer more classes without hiring additional staff. College Experience-It exposes students to what a college class could be like and helps students to be familiar with the college enrollment process.
