  4. SCHOOL ARRIVAL Students should not arrive at school before 8:30am as adequate supervision cannot be arranged before this time. When students arrive they assemble at the library benches until they are dismissed by admin at 8:40am to move to class and prepare for the day s lessons. Please note, students arriving earlier than 8:30am will be taken to the office and you will be called to collect them. It is a huge risk to their safety when they are on school grounds unsupervised before this time. SCHOOL DEPARTURE Students are asked to leave school promptly at the end of the school day unless enrolled in after- school care or supervised by a caregiver. The oval is open for parent/student use, but we ask all families to vacate the early childhood area by 3:10pm. LATE STUDENT ARRIVALS When a student arrives at school after 8:50 am they are required to report to the office where the student will be issued a LatePass to provide to their teacher. EARLY SCHOOL DEPARTURE Parents/carers collecting their child early must sign their child out at the office. Parents will be provided with an early sign out card to present to the teacher before the student is released from class. Students will only be released to people who are nominated in our system, or if you have called to let us know someone else will be collecting them. KISS AND DRIVE The Kiss and Drive pick-up is located on Monash Avenue and is supervised by an admin until 3:10, any students remaining will be taken to the office for collection. Please do not do U-turns out of Kiss and Drive, please drive around the block. Students are to be collected from our side of the school road and not across the road when being collected. This poses a serious safety risk. Be aware to be patient and not park on yellow lines or the grassed areas as the Ranger regularly patrols the area. PERSONAL ITEMS - BOOKLIST Parents are asked to provide consumable items, which are replaced, as necessary. To make purchasing easier for the start of the school year, bulk order facilities have been organised through Campion Education. There is no obligation to use this company to purchase, but should parents wish to do so, materials selected and ordered will be available before the school year begins. There is an option for collection from their store or to have the items delivered to your house. The school does not take delivery of these items on your behalf. VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS AND CHARGES A voluntary payment requested from parents goes towards the cost of materials, services and facilities used by K-6 students in the educational program. Collier Primary School s voluntary contribution has been set at $60 per child per year. Whilst contributions are voluntary, the quality of our teaching and learning program will be maximised if each family makes its contribution. We are happy to accommodate progress payments if required. Charges are payments that the school will ask for throughout the year. These are for extra-curricular events that the school facilitates. It is important to pay these so your child can participate in these events. This includes swimming, camp, excursions and incursions. Non payment means your child will not be able to participate and will be offered an alternative activity on site. SCHOOL PAYMENTS We accept cash, EFTPOS and direct deposit. If bringing cash please ensure that the payment is brought in a sealed envelope labeled with the student s full name and room number. Our preferred method of payment is cashless, which can be done at times through the consent to go app, or at the office and through bank transfer with the details seen below: BSB: 016 263 Account Number: 34097 1065 Account Name: Collier Primary School Reference: Child s surname and initial of their first name If paying for multiple children please use the eldest child s first initial in the reference. 4 - Collier Primary School 2025 Parent Handbook

  5. ENROLMENT AND ADMINISTRATION ENROLMENT INFORMATION All enrolments are processed by the school s Administration Office. To enrol at Collier Primary School there are several eligibility requirements. Additional information can be found on our website. RESIDENTS IN THE LOCAL INTAKE AREA The School Education Act 1999 guarantees a place for every child in the compulsory years of schooling (Pre-Primary to Year 6) in their local school. Collier Primary School is designated as a Local Intake School. The school has places for students in Pre-Primary Year 6 whose usual place of residence is within the boundaries of our local intake area that has been determined by the Department of Education. We require parents/carers to provide documentary evidence of the student s legal name, age, proof of address and current Family Court Orders, if applicable, at the time of enrolment. Families that do not reside within the catchment area are still welcome to complete an application and approval will be at the discretion of the Principal, based on class numbers PROOF OF ADDRESS A current utility bill as well as either, a lease agreement (with a minimum of 6 months tenancy from date of enrolment), or rates notice must be provided as evidence of current residential address in our local intake area. STUDENTS WITH ADDITIONAL NEEDS Parents/carers of students with additional needs are asked to contact the school, at the time of enrolment, and as circumstances change to discuss their child s unique requirements. This will ensure that the most appropriate program is put in place to meet the needs of their child. ACCESS/CUSTODY RESTRICTIONS The School Education Act 1999 obliges parents/carers to inform the school of any family court orders or other orders that apply to their children. The school must sight the original documents. All details will be handled with the strictest confidence. The school must be notified of any changes to these orders as soon as possible. The school does not manage or intervene in any family court orders. This is a private agreement between the parties. IMMUNISATION RECORDS The school must sight a recent (printed within 2 months) copy of each student s AIR History Statement (immunisation records) at the time of enrolment. A child s immunisation is expected to be up-to-date upon school entry. These include Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Polio, Whooping Cough, Diphtheria and Tetanus. Immunisation records can be obtained from your local GP or through your MYGOV Medicare online account. Immunisation is compulsory for students enrolling in Kindergarten who are over the age of 4 at the time of enrolment. OVERSEAS STUDENTS Students who are not Australian Citizens must present their visa grant notice at the time of enrolment. Students born overseas, who are Australian Citizens, must present their passport. Some students on visas will be required to enrol through TAFE International WA. Due to various factors including student numbers, there is no guarantee of enrolment. STUDENT RECORDS/INFORMATION It is important that parents/carers advise the school immediately if there are changes of address, telephone number, emergency contacts or medical details. This will ensure that the welfare of all students is given the highest priority, especially in times of urgency. 5 - Collier Primary School 2025 Parent Handbook

  6. PHOTO PERMISSION FOR STUDENTS The Department of Education s Information and Privacy Policy requires schools to gain parent/carer permission before using visual images of students such as photographs outside the school environment (E.g. Notice boards, newspapers and websites. On enrolment, you will be given a permission form to complete and return to the office. COMPUTER/INTERNET ACCESS FOR STUDENTS To gain access to the internet and computers on-site, all students from K-6 are required to sign and return the Internet Agreement form to the office. THIRD-PARTY APPS Parents are required to sign the Third Party Apps form on enrolment and as updated to allow their child to access apps we may use on the iPads or notebooks. The parking bays along Throssell Ave are for parents with students in Pre-primary or Kindergarten. Parents are not to park in the staff parking area when collecting or dropping off students. Please do not park in our neighbours driveways or do U-turns outside of the school. Please drive around the block. Please be patient and note that the Ranger patrols and issues fines regularly. BIKES AND SCOOTERS Students are encouraged to ride bikes and scooters to school. In the interest of safety, we have rules for them to follow: Bikes or scooters are not to be ridden on school grounds, and a helmet is required to travel to and from school. Bikes and scooters must be kept in the racks provided during the school day. Bikes and scooters are not to be left on school grounds overnight. It is recommended that children under ten do not ride unsupervised to school Bikes and scooters are not secured by the school. Parents must purchase locks. Please note there is no school insurance to cover theft or damage of personal property. 7. ASSEMBLIES AND WHOLE SCHOOL EVENTS Whole school assemblies are a feature of our whole school activities program. These happen twice per term. In addition, many other events to promote parent/community involvement, celebrate students learning and encourage good behaviour will be a feature at Collier PS. Parents, carers and friends are all welcome to attend assemblies to celebrate your child's success. CANTEEN The P&C canteen operates every Monday and Friday for both lunch and recess. The canteen encourages children to make healthy food choices by providing nutritional details on the menu with a coloured dot system. Orders can be placed via the QKR app before 8 am or by hand until 9 am. Any parents willing to volunteer in the canteen should contact the canteen manager via email: collierpnc_canteen@hotmail.com, and keep an eye out for P&C Facebook posts. NO SMOKING Collier Primary School is a smoke free environment. Parents and visitors are asked to adhere to the Department of Education Policy prohibiting smoking and vaping on school grounds and in adjacent areas such as car parks. Students caught smoking/vaping on school site will be suspended. INTERPRETER SERVICES We have interpreter services available to all parents/carers who require support for teacher meetings and interviews. To arrange an interpreter please see the school office, for more information. MESSAGES During class meetings at the beginning of the year, teachers will inform parents of the best way to contact them. Parents may forward messages to teachers in paper form or via email. Telephone calls during the day will be taken by the front office, as the teacher is unable to take calls when teaching. A message will be passed on to them. Please do not contact staff through Social Media. COMPLAINTS MANAGEMENT/ADDRESSING CONCERNS Parents are to contact the teacher directly to resolve any concerns they may have. If you feel this concern is not addressed, then the appropriate course of action is to contact the Deputy Principal, Christiana Paterson to assist in seeking a resolution. The Deputy Principal will liaise with the Principal in their investigation and reasonable adjustments and outcomes are sought. Concerns and complaints are to follow a respectful, positive and goal orientated process, with a solutions focused model in place. Harassment, intimidation or bullying of staff will not be tolerated. Please be mindful of following the parent code of conduct and assist us in working towards a positive resolution. HELPING HANDS COLLIER - OUT OF SCHOOL CARE The Helping Hands Organisation provides out-of-school-hours care and recreation for students aged 5 -12 years. It is a paid service that is operational from 7 am - 9 am and 2:30 pm - 6 pm on weekdays. Students may use the facility on an occasional or full-time basis. Enquires can be made directly to the provider by phone on 0434 313 884 or via their website: https://www.helpinghandsnetwork.com.au/find-us/collier-primary-school/ Please note: Helping Hands is an independent company of the school and are not contactable between the hours of 9:00 am and 2:30 pm. PARENTS AND CITIZENS ASSOCIATION (P&C) The P&C is a great opportunity for parents, teachers and the community to support our school. 8. SCHOOL COUNCIL The school council works with the school community to achieve the best outcomes for students. It plays an important role in contributing to good school governance so that school resources are used efficiently, and community expectations and the school s priorities reflect the needs of students. The functions of the council are covered by legislation and include both approval and advisory roles. Councils make decisions with the principal and other relevant decision-makers who ensure the decisions adhere to legislative and policy requirements. Principals may also seek the advice of councils or boards to inform themselves before making management decisions. Council members have the right to understand the principal s decisions (except where they involve confidential information and decisions about people or families). The council or board does not intervene in the control or management of the school. This is the role of the principal. https://www.education.wa.edu.au/school-councils-boards ATTENDANCE The School Education Act 1999 requires all children of compulsory school age to attend school. Whilst it is not compulsory to enrol your child in Kindergarten, once they are enrolled it is compulsory for them to attend all Kindergarten days. When a child is unable to attend, legislation requires that parents/carers forward notification providing a reasonable cause for the absence of their child. Please note that a telephone message/email beforehand is encouraged if the absence is anticipated. The school will use an SMS messaging service which, on every school day at approximately 9:45 am, will automatically send a text message to a parent or caregiver if a child is marked absent without explanation. Parents are asked to respond to these messages. When an explanation is not provided to the school within two days of the original day s absence, the class teacher may send an email or make a phone call requesting an explanation. The Student Services Deputy Principal may also contact you. In addition, it is important to note that no child may leave the school grounds during the school day without the knowledge and permission of the school Administration. Parents or carers collecting children before the end of the school day are required to complete a Leave Pass obtained from the front office. Regular absences of 1 or 2 days per week has a huge impact on a child s education: From Kindy-Yr 12 that adds up to If your child misses That equals or 1 day per fortnight 20 days per year 1 month per year Nearly 1.5 years 1 day per week 40 days per year 2 months per year Over 2.5 years 2 days per week 80 days per year 4 months per year Over 5 years 3 dauys per week 120 days per year 6 months per year Nearly 8 years 8 - Collier Primary School 2025 Parent Handbook

  10. PROCEDURES AND POLICIES PERSONAL BELONGINGS Students are asked not to bring toys, electronics or valuables to school as they can be lost, damaged or stolen. No responsibility can be accepted for such items and there is no school insurance to cover these items. LOST PROPERTY A plastic bin containing all items of lost property, including clothing, lunchboxes and water bottles, can be located on the veranda. Items left in the lost property bin for longer than half a term will be thrown away or donated to the uniform shop for resale. MOBILE PHONES AND SMART DEVICES Students are not permitted to use mobile phones or other smart devices during school hours. We respect that some children need to bring a phone to school, however, they must sign it in at the front office, leave it there and collect it at the end of the day. This keeps the phone safe and ensures no inappropriate use of technology throughout the school day. Smart watches, and messaging devices are also not permitted. DOGS & OTHER PETS ON SCHOOL GROUNDS To ensure the safety of all members of the Collier Primary School community, we require that dogs and other pets do not enter school grounds, during the hours of 7:30am 4:30pm, except service dogs or dogs visiting as part of educational programs with approval by the Principal. Please leave pets at home when dropping off and picking up your child from school. We thank all of our parents and community members in advance for respecting these guidelines. SUN SMART Collier Primary School is a Sun Smart school for the safety of all children. All students must wear a wide-brimmed or bucket school hat when engaging in activities outside of the classroom all year round. This includes recess, lunch, physical education and other outside activities. Please ensure your child s hat is clearly labelled with your child s name. Children without hats will be supported by playing in designated shaded or undercover areas. Parents must supply their own sunscreen. On days when the heat and UV are extremely high, all children will play in designated indoor areas or in the undercover area. CRUNCH AND SIP Crunch and Sip is a primary school nutrition program developed to increase the quantities of vegetables, fruit and water consumed by children by providing them to opportunity to snack in class time. Please ensure all fruits and vegetables are pre-prepared and the container is clearly labelled. EMERGENCY PROCEDURES The school has clearly documented emergency procedures. All staff are taken through these at induction and drills are conducted regularly throughout the school year to ensure that staff and students know what to do in the event of an emergency. 10 - Collier Primary School 2025 Parent Handbook

  11. TEACHING AND LEARNING CHAPLAIN Chaplaincy and student wellbeing services play a key role in supporting schools to provide pastoral care. Schools pastoral care programs offer a range of services and strategies to support the social and emotional wellbeing of students. If you feel your child would benefit from assistance from the Chaplain, please speak to your classroom teacher who will liaise with the Student Services Deputy Principal. SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST Our School Psychologist is on-site every Monday. If you believe your child would benefit from assistance from the School Psychologist please contact the classroom teacher and Student Services Deputy Principal to complete a referral form. A triage process is then completed with the school psychologist. Please be aware that there may be long delays in assistance. STUDENTS AT EDUCATIONAL RISK Collier Primary School is committed to identifying students at risk and addressing the needs of students as early as possible to ensure that every student achieves to their full potential. The term At Educational Risk refers to a student who may not be achieving their potential for a variety of reasons and are identified so we can best support them to improve in this area of concern. CURRICULUM The Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline is for all students from Kindergarten to Year 10. It sets out the mandated curriculum, guiding principles for teaching, learning and assessment and support for teachers in their assessment and reporting of student achievement. Schools plan curriculum in accordance with the Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline (the Outline), accessible via the School Curriculum (www.scsa.wa.edu.au). Curriculum planning accounts for the needs of all students. This includes the enrolment of students with disability in regular classes, education support classes and education support schools. and Standards Authority website Belonging, Being and Becoming - The Early Years Learning Framework describes the principles, practices and outcomes essential to support and enhance young children's learning from birth to five years of age, as well as their transition to school. The National Quality Standard (NQS) sets a high national benchmark for early childhood education and care and outside school hours care services in Australia. The NQS includes 7 quality areas that are important to outcomes for children. Collier PS is assessed and rated by our regulatory authority against the NQS, and given a rating for each of the 7 quality areas and an overall rating based on these results. SPECIALIST SUBJECTS Collier Primary School has specialist teachers for the following subjects: Music Physical Education Art Language other than English - Indonesian Digital Technology Science 11 - Collier Primary School 2025 Parent Handbook

  12. REPORTING TO PARENTS As a part of accountability requirements, regular reporting to parents and feedback on student progress is an important process for our school. A variety of methods are utilised during each term to keep parents/carers informed. Parents/carers will receive a formal written report in Term 2 and Term 4. PARENT INTERVIEWS Staff are available for interviews throughout the school year to discuss student progress and achievement. Class teachers will initiate an interview if there is a concern with a student s progress or behaviour. Interviews are usually not to be scheduled for before school as this is teacher preparation time. Parents are required to maintain regular contact with their child s teacher throughout the year to ensure we are working together as a team to best meet the needs of your child. Formal Interviews are held at the end of Term 1. HOMEWORK Collier PS has a homework policy for parents to implement. Homework should not be a laborious and difficult task to carry out. If you struggle to get your child to do homework, please talk with your classroom teacher as soon as possible so we can assist. The homework policy is available on the school's website. STUDENT LEADERSHIP Students are encouraged to take on leadership roles. These opportunities and jobs will build their skills in time management, organisation and responsibility, laying the foundation for future leadership roles as they grow older. In the older years, students will have many opportunities to be formal leaders in different areas. These students will be nominated and voted on by their peers and school staff. LIBRARY Our well-resourced library is available to all students. The library is resourced with quality fiction and non-fiction books which students will be strongly encouraged to borrow. All students must have a library bag in which to transport their books to and from school. If a student damages or loses a library book, the parent will be responsible for the replacement cost. A note will be sent via the librarian communicating this. Book Fairs are held once a year and help the school stock up on resources to reinforce your child s education. Best of all, each book fair provides kids access to more books as a percentage of profits are returned to the library. EXCURSIONS AND INCURSIONS Educational excursions and incursions play an important part in the learning program of all classes. Extra-curricular activities must value add to the curriculum and be for an educational purpose. Written permission is required for all excursions and failure to return the permission slip will prevent the child from participating. With the additional cost of living, most teachers opt for in school events instead of excursions outside of the school. Planned activities vary from teacher to teacher and also include sporting opportunities. There is no mandatory requirement for a teacher to take students on an excursion. PARENT-INITIATED SERVICE PROVIDERS Parents can request service providers access to students at school. This may be for tutoring, occupational therapy, speech therapy and NDIS funded service providers. This is not granted automatically and needs to be applied for through the Deputy Principal for consideration. 12 - Collier Primary School 2025 Parent Handbook

  13. BEHAVIOUR POLICY Collier Primary School is implementing a Positive Behaviour Support approach to managing behaviour. It is a whole-school approach to creating a positive, safe and supportive school climate in which all students can learn and develop. Collier Staff and family members work together to teach and support behaviour expectations at the school. PBS focuses on the expected behaviours of a person in a given situation and supports both student learning and social behaviour. For further information please see our Behaviour Management Policy. BULLYING Research-based best practice to prevent and manage bullying includes our positive behaviour support approach that promotes a positive school environment and the development of mutual trust and respect. All our children have the right to a safe, environment both at school and in the digital world where bullying is unacceptable in all its forms. Collier Primary School takes any form of bullying seriously and has clear processes for preventing and managing the bullying of others. We build awareness, empathy and strategies for dealing with bullying throughout our curriculum. Some of the programs we specifically employ are e-SafeKids, Bullying NO way! and Zones of Regulation. The national definition of bullying for Australian schools says: Bullying is an ongoing and deliberate misuse of power in relationships through repeated verbal, physical and/or social behaviour that intends to cause physical, social and/or psychological harm. It can involve an individual or a group misusing their power, or perceived power, over one or more persons who feel unable to stop it from happening. Bullying can happen in person or online, via various digital platforms and devices and it can be obvious (overt) or hidden (covert). Bullying behaviour is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time (for example, through sharing of digital records). Bullying of any form or for any reason can have immediate, medium and long-term effects on those involved, including bystanders. BIRTHDAYS Your child s special day is important to us and we want to help them celebrate. If providing an edible treat please ensure that all ingredients are sent to the teacher 1 week before the birthday and be aware of classroom allergies. If allergies are present in the classroom, we ask parents to consider an alternative so these students do not miss out. Individual cupcakes or 99% fruitjuice icy-poles are our preference for edible items, however our first preference is for you to bring a party bag for each child with small toy items and no food. SWIMMING In-term swimming is for all students from Pre-Primary to Year 6 and is a school-based program offering two weeks of swimming instruction with qualified instructors. The program provides quality swimming lessons to ensure students develop vital swimming and water safety skills. Swimming lessons are held at the Cannington Leisureplex. Parents are required to pay for their child s transportation and pool entry. Our Education Assistants have a choice to enter the pool to support children with additional needs. If they are unable to and your child requires assistance to participate fully, the school will work you to form a plan of support. This may mean a parent needs to attend swimming lessons, but this is planned on a case by case basis. 13 - Collier Primary School 2025 Parent Handbook

  14. HEALTH AND MEDICAL MEDICAL CONDITIONS AND MEDICATIONS Please advise the office if your child suffers from any medical condition. This includes conditions such as asthma, allergies or other medical conditions. A confidential record of students with medical needs is maintained within our electronic records system and communicated with staff to ensure our safety procedures are in place. Relief teachers are supplied with medical information by the teacher in their planning pack. Where possible, prescription and non-prescription medication should be administered to your child at home before and after school. However, it is acknowledged that on some occasions, medication may be required to be administered whilst your child is at school. Should this be the case, the school requires a comprehensive suite of information relating to the medicine and its administration so see the team in the front office. You must provide the school with a Medical Action Plan provided by your family doctor if your child is asthmatic, anaphylactic, or suffers from other conditions that may require attention by staff. A Student Medication Form must be completed by you before any medications can be held on school site and administered. This is in line with Department of Education policy, forms are available at the front office upon request. Please note that for safety reasons, all medications are to be stored in a locked cupboard/fridge the front office. This includes over the counter medications (e.g. antibiotics, analgesics) which are not to be kept in students school bags. This does not include epipens and asthma medication that a student needs immediate access to. This is managed at an individual case level. In some instances, parents may be asked to return to school to administer their child s medication if the circumstances warrant such action. We will not force a student to take medication if they refuse for any reason, and this needs to be managed by the child s parents. ALLERGIES Collier Primary School is an AllegryAware school. Being allergy aware means taking steps to prevent students from encountering known allergies. The Department of Education recommends having an allergy aware approach rather than using food bans. Food bans, and the use of terms such as nut-free , are not effective in preventing or managing anaphylaxis. Please visit the allergy aware website for further information: https://www.allergyaware.org.au/ Please try not to send nuts or nut products to school for your child s recess or lunch. No nut products are to be included in food on special days i.e. birthday cakes, or in any cooking activities at school or on school camps. Staff will supervise students eating at recess and lunchtime. Students are NOT to share food. Staff have participated in training for understanding and dealing with Anaphylaxis. All staff are made aware of specific students via their Medical Plans including photographs, emergency response planning and medication advice. Please alert the school to any allergies your child/children may have on enrolment so we can implement the appropriate plan to support them. EMERGENCY LUNCHES Fruit and cheese sandwiches are available from the office in case of emergency. Please ensure your child is aware of this in case their lunch is dropped or forgotten. 14 - Collier Primary School 2025 Parent Handbook

  15. ACCIDENT AND ILLNESS Parents will be notified if their child becomes very ill or are seriously injured at school. If the injury is minor and the child can participate in normal activities then first aid will be administered at school and the parents will be notified only if there is a perceived need. If your child has an allergy to band aids, please let us know. Any incidents involving a head injury/bump to the head will be followed up with a phone call to the parent for you to take them home and have them checked. All parents are asked to ensure that the school has an up-to-date contact phone number, address and emergency contact details, so contact and collection can be made without delay. In the event of a serious accident where parents cannot be contacted, an ambulance may be called (note the expense for this action is to be met by the family not the Department of Education). HEAD LICE Head lice is an unfortunate thing that can happen to anyone. Students with lice must be treated to ensure all lice and eggs are removed. There is no judgment if your child has head lice, we aim to support you in their removal and stop them spreading further through the school. To limit the spread of head lice, all students with longer hair that can be tied up must do so. Please consult with our local pharmacy for the appropriate treatment. Whilst it is a personal choice, we do find chemical treatments are most effective, followed up by a combing with a fine nit comb and lastly running a hot hair iron through your child's hair to kill any that may have survived. Students can return to school after the first treatment. A follow-up treatment (approx 7 days later) is important for successful eradication. It is recommended hair should be checked weekly. Where live head lice are detected on a child while at school, parents will be asked to collect the student from school, treat them with appropriately and return the student after the first treatment. Administration may check a student's hair on entry back into the school to limit the risk of spreading. EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAM Collier Primary School follows the Department of Educations Kindergarten Curriculum and the West Australian Curriculum for Pre-primary. The early childhood program has two dimensions; play-based learning and the explicit teaching of foundation skills in literacy, numeracy, social/emotional, creative and physical development. By providing a program that includes intentional and explicit teaching and learning of English, Mathematics, Humanities and Science through play-based learning we establish a positive beginning to school learning that ensures continuity throughout their school life. In the early years of schooling at Collier Primary School, priority is given to Literacy and Numeracy development, as these are the foundations of learning. Classroom teachers plan collaboratively, engage in year level moderation activities and work towards the same learning outcomes for all students. However, each teacher has a unique and individual teaching style, so learning experiences may be presented differently and, as a result, classrooms will look different. We celebrate our individual styles of teaching, aligned to the WA curriculum to best cater for our students learning ideas. WRITING & FINE MOTOR DEVELOPMENT During the early years, most children show an interest in learning to print letters and numbers. If parents are helping children to write their names, please use the correct case, i.e. capital letter for first letter of their name and lowercase for remainder of your child s name. It is beneficial to call letters by their letter sounds. A Fine Motor Skills program will be implemented in Kindergarten and Pre-primary. This program will encourage children to use the correct pencil grip and learn handwriting patterns and letter formations in a sequential manner. It is important that children of this age be encouraged to use the wide FORMATIVE pencils and crayons until a correct grip of the writing/drawing implement has been established. Continual use of the incorrect grip is tiring to sustain and can lead to writing problems in later years. 19 - Collier Primary School 2025 Parent Handbook

  20. PARENT INVOLVEMENT We believe that your involvement in the program makes your child s learning experiences more effective and meaningful and we welcome parent involvement in many ways! Classroom parent rosters in class, a play dough roster. Laundry and play dough making rosters. ECC gardening busy bees. Canteen helper (Monday, Thursday). Parent roster sheets will be displayed on the classroom noticeboard. SPARE CLOTHES It is essential that your child has a full spare set of clothes and underwear in their bag. The children will wear aprons for many activities, however, at times their clothes may become a little dirty. Most of the paint we use comes out in cold water. BIKES AND SCOOTERS Bike racks are provided for pupils' bicycles and scooters on the far side of the large, grassed area in the early childhood centre. Students are required to walk their bicycles and scooters whilst on school grounds. Parents are reminded that by law, helmets must be worn at all times. Please ensure your children are familiar with the road rules and road safety guidelines. Theft of bikes from school grounds is not covered by Department of Education insurance, therefore it is recommended that bike locks be used to secure bikes and scooters during the day Specific Information NOTES 20 - Collier Primary School 2025 Parent Handbook
