  2. Mission Statement The mission of the Wellness Bureau is to enhance and improve the quality of life for employees within the Columbus Division of Police, thereby improving any interaction between those employed by the Columbus Division of Police and anyone they encounter.

Key Building Blocks Incorporate Techniques Ongoing Practice & Evaluation Educate/Normalize Importance of mental health as an aspect of overall health Mindfulness based stress reduction, yoga, fitness Mental health check-ins initially voluntary perceived stress scales Wellness app Effects of cortisol and hypervigilance cycle Annual training on relevant wellness topics CPD-sponsored social and/or volunteer opportunities Emotional Intelligence and how awareness can add benefit to health and performance at work Incorporate families

Basic Training-Phase I Basic Training - Phase I Barriers to Implemtnation Implementation Goal Initiative Content/Rationale Responsbility Provide broad overview of bureau, resources, and basic education on stress management Introduction to EAP & Wellness Bureau EAP & Wellness Bureau Commander N/A Complete week 1 1.1 Division personnel who are certified instructors Introduce week 1 and continue offering throughout Voluntary participation during non-committed times Mindfulness & Yoga N/A 1.2 Removed due to time constraints. Need to get probation extended and re-implement. Course on Emotional Survival for Law Enforcement , Dr. Kevin Gilmartin. Incumbent Officers-Phase II Incumbents - Phase II Barriers to Implementation Implementation Goal Initiative Content/Rationale Responsbility Division employs several officers who have expertise and certifications--officers would need to be on special assignment at Wellness Bureau Voluntary fitness-related course offerings at the academy on all shifts Approval from Chief & City HR Certified Instuctors End of 2020 2.1 Division has employees who are certified financial planners and insurance professionals Design voluntary training block to be offered in the evening Financial Fitness Bootcamp Volunteer availability Second half of 2020 2.2 Utilizing EQi-2 or similar instrument, provide education on E.I., define strengths & develop weaknesses; could fulfill annual wellness training goal Wellness Bureau Commander & PAT Members Emotional Intelligence Baseline Testing Approval through Chief & funding 2021 In-Service 2.2 Wellness Bureau Commander & Contracted Psychologists Wellness Bureau Commander, Advanced Training Staff, PAT Volunteer instructors Mental Health check-ins for volunteer groups Do not currently have mental health check-ins Final approval from Chief & City HR By the end of 2020 for 2021 2.3 Annual block at in-service on wellness-related topic Continuing Training Approval from Chief Annually 2.4

Incumbent Officers-Phase III Incumbents - Phase III Barriers to Implementation Implementation Goal Initiative Content/Rationale Responsbility Person who could conduct movement analysis and prescribe and design exercise to reduce injuries Hire a Fitness Professional as part of the Wellness Bureau Certified Professional Approval from Chief, Director & Finance By end of March, 2021 3.1 Collective Bargaining agreement--would need to be endorsed by the City and bargained with FOP at contract negotiations Annual Mental Health Check-ins Division-wide expansion of concept that is incentivized Contracted Professionals Beginning of next FOP Contract 3.2

Retiree Initiatives Retiree Initiatives Barriers to Implementation Implementation Goal Initiative Content/Rationale Responsbility Would mirror the active Peer Assistance Team, but would support retirees Help implement a peer team for retirees FOP & retired volunteers Volunteers willing to guide program June, 2020 1.1 Wellness Bureau Commander, EAP, Retired Peers Division has employees who are certified financial planners and insurance professionals Develop Retirement Transition course Voluntary class to assist transition to retirement N/A by end of 2020 1.2 Financial Planning Considerations Voluntary class designed specifically for retirement Volunteer availability by end of 2020 1.3

  11. Summary Comprehensive plan for all phases of employment Designed to build with each phase Goal is to educate and normalize to reduce stigma, thus improving delivery of police services and staff s quality of life
