  4. WORKFORCE INNOVATION AND OPPORTUNITY ACT Requires specific activities including integrating basic adult education and occupational skills training and the use of career pathways. Places an emphasis on ensuring providers offer adult education concurrently or integrated with occupational skills training. Requires all adult basic education and literacy programs to use the same set of primary indicators of performance accountability outlined for all employment and training activities authorized under this Act.

  6. WHAT IS TEAM TEACHING Make two lists: What team teaching is. What team teaching isn t.

  7. WHAT IS TEAM TEACHING? A pair of teachers working together to Purposefully and collaboratively plan. Conduct and evaluate learning activities. Use instructional strategies that engage students in a way that would not be possible when only one teacher is present. Utilize thoughtful integration of both instructors expertise to best serve the students. Commit to open and on-going communication.

  8. WHAT IS TEAM TEACHING? Team teaching is most efficient when instructors are equal partners and Are both in charge of content Engaged the entire class period Work as an extra set of eyes Carefully plan class content

  9. WHAT TEAM TEACHING IS NOT Two instructors taking half the class time each while the other watches or prepares for the next lesson. One instructor playing the role of a tutor.

TEAM TEACHING STRATEGIES Content presentation / Writing on whiteboard Content presentation / Discussion questions Questions can be planned but look spontaneous Questions can stem from confused looks on student faces Circulation while students work - 180 Split the class and teach simultaneously

  13. TEAM TEACHING TIPS Never take anything for granted explicitly discuss everything. Decide upon unacceptable classroom behavior together (cell phones, speaking out of turn?) Plan all lessons together including in/out of class evaluations Develop a mutually agreed upon back-up plan Always show respect to one another both inside and outside the classroom.

  14. SOCRATIC WRITING Start writing about how you could use what you learned today in your program. When time is up, exchange papers with your partner. The partner reads what was written and writes a question that relates to what was written. Exchange papers again and answer the question written. We ll do this cycle twice.
