Supplemental funding of up to $30,000 is available to enhance existing internally or externally funded studies by improving communication between Iowa communities and HCCC researchers or enhancing research team capacity. Eligible applicants include faculty and research scientists, and funded projects must be relevant to HCCC's catchment area. Examples of expenses covered include forming advisory boards, training researchers, and organizing conferences. Ineligible expenses include equipment and salary support for non-community staff.

  1. Community Outreach & Engagement Supplemental Funding Opportunity

Description of Funding Supplemental funding up to $30,000 to augment existing internally or externally funded studies The funding should be used to : Increase two-way communication between Iowa communities and HCCC researchers and/or Increase the capacity of research teams at HCCC to better engage in research that includes the community Rolling application Community Advisory Board members will review applications and select awardees

  3. Goal of Funding Provide supplemental funding for investigators whose research may involve or benefit from working with Iowa communities directly A successful, two-way relationship between the funded HCCC research team and a community will be a key outcome of this proposal

  4. Eligibility All faculty and research scientists who are PIs on a currently funded project The principal investigator must be a member of the HCCC Interdisciplinary collaborations are encouraged Funded project must address a topic or cancer that is relevant to the catchment area of HCCC

  5. Example Expenses Forming a community Advisory Board or Patient and Family Advisors o Honorariums for members o Meeting space fees Hiring a community member to assist with project Disseminating results o Cost of a graphic design, editor or producer o Production of direct mailings, videos, social media messages, policy briefs, etc. o Convening townhall meetings to present findings Training for researchers to increase capacity to engage with community Recruiting study participants Planning mini-summits/conferences/symposiums o Funds can be used to bring community members to the University of Iowa to see research being conducted and talk about it o Funds can be used to bring health care providers from across Iowa to one location

  6. Ineligible Expenses Equipment Salary support for existing Holden research staff, graduate research staff, or any other non-community staff Stipends to increase study participation, or other efforts to increase study participation in a non- community engaged way Conference travel not related to community engagement
