Comparing Traditional vs. Computer-Based Test Methods for University Exams
This study explores the comparability between traditional paper-based test methods and computer-based test methods for standardized university examinations. Motivated by the need to assess effectiveness, usability, implementation, and standardization of these methods, the research aims to conduct a literary survey and provide recommendations for best practices in Nigerian universities.

Introduction Examination can be defined as a formal test of a person's knowledge or proficiency in a subject or skill. A standardized test is any test that is administered and scored in a consistent defensibility. manner to ensure legal Types of Examination Method: Written tests, Multiple Choice Tests(MCT), Alternative response, Completion type, Essay, Mathematical questions, etc Matching type,
Problem Statement Comparability of the two basic types of examination test methods: Paper-based test method(PBT) Computer-based test method(CBT)
Motivation of Study In Nigeria, paper-based test method is widely renown in our Universities while the computer-based test on the other hand has been sparingly adopted. However, to evaluate and assess the comparability, usability, implementation and standardization of the two test methods have not been scholarly considered Hence there is need for a literary and qualitative survey of these two popular methods of conducting University tests. The consolidation visavis University examinations. result will assist in initiating a paradigm shift on
Aim and Objectives The aim of this study is to conduct a literary survey, comparing the two basic test methods used in Nigerian Univeristies. The objectives are: To conduct a literary and result-based survey of the effectiveness of paper- based examination To do a comparative analysis of the effectiveness of these two methods To elucidate some challenges that each of these two methods faces To recommend one over another between these two methods in academic environments To encourage best practices in Nigerian Universities in terms of examination methods.
Significance of Study The examination method inducted determines the standard of education of a University. Research has proven that computer will soon take over the majority of our daily activities. The choice of these two methods depends on the systematic analysis of these two methods and the context in which each is suited.
Scope of Study Conducting a systematic study on the academic system of conducting examinations in a standardized way, yet this study will limit its study to selected tertiary institutions in Lagos State as regards the paper-based and the computer- based test examination modes.
Research Methodology Consultation of books and journals on subject- related matters. Online materials on paper-based methods. Online materials on computer-based examination methods. Questionnaires were distributed to selected students in selected tertiary institutions in Lagos State Evaluation of results obtained from this study.
Literature Review Computer-based test (CBT), is an efficient way to provide a secure, consistent environment for certification and licensure while significantly enhancing the candidate experience. Conversion from PBT to CBT results the availability of a greater number of testing locations and more flexible scheduling. However, migration from pencil candidate behavior. The goal of the present study is to bring new evidence as regards the impact of computerized delivery on students performance and perceived satisfaction. However, the use of computers to deliver course-related materials is rapidly expanding in most universities. to computer does affect

Sample Demography Selection Nigerian Universities have widely used computers to administer their entrance screening tests and the standard of administration of these tests has not been widely investigated as regards effectiveness and performance. This study will therefore narrow its investigation down to the comparison of the two types of tests in Nigerian Universities. However, only tertiary institutions in Lagos State of Nigeria would be investigated. Four tertiary institutions shall be considered and a total of 20 students each shall be considered for the sample study.
Research Questions The following research questions drove the pivot of this research: Is the perception on CBT positive or negative? Do students in Nigeria Universities have a positive mindset toward CBT? Does student-computer interaction standard have any effect on CBT? Is student s experience on paper-based test (PBT) positive or negative? Is the experience on CBT positive or negative?

Discussion The above summary graph clearly depicts that CBT is the students choice. This is evident from the readability, reliability, ease of use, security, confidentiality and ease of output that accompany Computer-Based tests. However, the sad news as gathered in this study is that Universities in Nigeria have not implemented a campus-wide application of Computers in their conducted examinations.
