  3. Legal Obligations to Plan and Prepare Ed Code 32001 Along with requiring fire detection and alarms, mandates that fire drills be conducted each semester Ed Code 32282 School Safety Plan Requirements

School Safety Plan: Ed Code 32282 Comprehensive School Safety Plan shall include: Assessment of current crime stats Identifying strategies and programs to maintain a safe school Mandated reporting Disaster procedures routine and emergency Building disaster plan Drop, cover, hold on procedure Protective measures Proper training of certificated, classified, and students School suspension and expulsion procedures Teacher notification of students with safe schools act violations (49079 Discrimination and Harassment Policy Dress code Procedures for safe ingress and egress of pupil, parents and school employees Safe and orderly environment conducive to learning Rules and procedures on school discipline

  5. TUHSD Plan for Compliance with Ed Code 32282 On October 15th, 2015 TUHSD participated in the Great American Shake Out TUHS, BV, and ROP all participated in a full drop, cover, hold on drill followed by a full evacuation

  6. Legislative Attempts to Change Ed. Code 32282: SB 634 Introduced in February 2013, but failed to advance past committee Carol Liu, Senate Committee on Education Chair 2013-present introduced the bill said, In light of the risks today's schools must prepare for, it is important that each school not only have a safety plan, but regularly test the efficacy of the plan through drills. It was looking to amend 32282 to include: Require Lockdown/Evacuation drills for the following reasons: Fire Suspicious items or persons Hazardous materials Bomb threats Shooting incidents on campus Shooting incidents near school grounds 2 evacuation drills per school year 1 lockdown drill per school year What this means Training is commonly recognized as a key component in prevention.

  7. Shelter in Place When: Activity outside TUHSD that requires monitoring What do: Shut and lock the doors. Close drapes. Continue with normal activities as is allowed by administration or law enforcement. Do not respond to bells Be prepared to evacuate if needed.

  8. Lockdown Types: Preventative & Active Emergency Preventative Active Emergency When: In the event of outside law enforcement action or civil unrest Notification: This is a campus lockdown Procedure: Lockdown When: Active shooter or armed intruder on campus Notification: There is an armed intruder on campus . Followed by any known information Procedure: Run. Hide. Fight

  9. Preventative Lockdown Drill Procedures Procedures: Gather students outside your door & LOCK DOORS Turn off lights Remain in classroom; stay away from door/windows Do not allow anyone to enter or exit the classroom Do not respond to bell system No non-emergency radio traffic Complete Emergency Attendance Card Remain in place until an identified Administrator or designee clears your room. Administrator or designee will indicate their presence at the door by identifying themselves and then unlocking the door Turn in the Emergency Attendance Card at that time. An all clear announcement will be made when rooms are secured: CAMPUS IS ALL CLEAR. PLEASE RESUME YOUR CLASSES

  10. TUHSD Plan to Implement Preventative Lockdown On Monday, November 9thPreventative Lockdown Drill during 4thperiod. Notification Plan: October 12th, 13th, & 14th: Faculty and Staff training October 19th: School Board Presentation October 20th 30th: First Responders notification October 26th: News release (newspaper, website, social media) & Local Businesses and schools informed November 4th& 8th: All call to parents November 5th: Substitute and Staff Training (make-ups) November 6th: Surrounding neighborhood have door to door canvassing

  11. Active Emergency Lockdown Drill Training During March In-Service, School Shepherds will be training staff on an Active Emergency Lockdown Run. Hide. Fight Model Run. Hide. Fight.
