Confined spaces present significant hazards due to limited entry and exit means, making them unsuitable for continuous occupation. OSHA's definition emphasizes these key characteristics of a confined space, with examples of permit-required confined spaces outlined. Such spaces may contain hazardous atmospheres or materials with engulfment potential, posing serious safety risks. The importance of recognizing and assessing confined spaces cannot be overstated for workplace safety.
