My connections to the novel: The Absolute True Story of a Part Time Indian By: Madelyn By: Madelyn
Quote Friends come and go, so does a best friend. But best friends will always find their way back. -iliketoquote.com
Quote connection When I first saw this image I though of the book because it has so much meaning and truth behind it. Junior and Rowdy were best friends and they shared so many memories and experience together, when you drift part you never lose them you just stop making more and sharing them with the other person. You can chose to drift apart from each other but it is especially important in their friendship that they came back together by the end of the novel. One experience that tested their relationship was when Junior made the decision to transfer schools out of the reservation. Rowdy didn t handle it very well and that was the start of the conflict between their relationship, they went through a lot as friends but I my opinion that made then stronger. The reason I think that is because they came back together by the end of the novel and they were able to move on from the passed without holding to many grudges and hard feelings. Sometimes with friends you can have disagreements or you cant get along but I think that it can go two different ways. Way number one is that you grow a tighter relationship and you can communicated better as you go forward and the second way is that it can make you more distant and can leave you without a best friend.
Quote Only a Grandma can be filled with kindness love with such heart and soul & give great wisdom that will last a life time -anonymous
Quote connection This quote stood out to me because I think that it represented Junior s Grandmother s connections to her friends, family and the people that surrounded her in her everyday life. In the novel it said that she treated everyone with respect and kindness no matter what they looked like or where they come from. She was always there for Junior to give him advice and connect with him when his parents weren t there or weren t very supportive. She impacted everyone's life in the reservation positively because at her there were 2,000 people who come and thet was the amount of people her kindness touched. She also gave lots of people wisdom and advice for the troubles that they were going through and she was always there to listen. I think that it was so important for Junior to have her in his life with the experiences and the hard situations that he had to for through. At times she was there more than his parents and she would be the one to help. When they were barring her body I think that it was meant to be for Ted (the rich white man) to come because it turned the sad faces on peoples face to a smile and it stared away from the grief. I think that she would have wanted that for the community and the people that she impacted. IT was more of a joyful experience and an experience that they can remember to honour her.
Article Alcoholism and Family/Marital Problems Alcohol abuse and alcoholism within a family is a problem that can destroy a marriage or drive a wedge between members. That means people who drink can blow through the family budget, cause fights, ignore children, and otherwise impair the health and happiness of the people they love. Of married couples who get into physical altercations, some 60-70 percent abuse alcohol. In time, family members may even develop symptoms of codependency, inadvertently keeping the addiction alive, even though it harms them. Family therapy and rehab can help. Etc.
Article connection At first glace I thought of Junior and the situation his family has been through because this is something that he struggles with at home everyday and what lots of families struggle with on the reservation. Junior s best friend Rowdy has an abusive father that physically abuses him regularly because of the alcohol and how his body reacts to it. In the novel it was a big part of Junior because his parents weren t always there for him or could give him their full attention because of how drunk or unstable they were. At one point in the novel his father left with the little money that they had to spend on Christmas and he spent it all on alcohol and came back a couple weeks later with only a five dollar bill for Junior. This hurt Junior and his mother very much and they were so disappointed in his father for making such a poor decision. Another thing that impacted Junior relating alcohol is the death of his sister Mary. She got so drunk that she fell asleep in her camper and there was a fire but she never woke up. Their family was devastated about his mother told him to never drink although she has doing it. All of this experiences had been tough for Junior but it had made him a stronger person by the end. I think that when Junior is older he won t drink or he will be very carful the amount he is ingesting due to all the things he has been through. In this article it talks about the struggles families have with alcohol and the things that come with it that a family has to deals with. I think that Junior is in a hard situation because in the reservation it is normally for people to an alcohol addiction so there is not really an escape for him and there is no one really there to talk about it or how to deal with it. Junior is around it all the time so he know that is bad and how awful it is but he doesn't really know that it is something the should be fixed and the shouldn't be tolerated with.

Video connection At first when I watched this video I didn t think that it connected to Junior's family because it was coming from a perspective of someone who has overcome alcohol addiction and knows how to handle it but the more I though about it, it actually connects to the way that Junior sees his parents. It doesn't mean that he doesn't love them or is disappointed but he sees alcohol as wrecking your life, putting yourself and family in bad situations and I would think the see I were in his shoes. I wasn't done his family or him any good in his like. Although his parents see it as something that makes them happy and lets them forget all of the negative things that are happening in their life, but then that is when they forget that they have a son Junior and they need to be parents all the time. Junior sees that they have a problem and they are able to get out of it if they really and to and if it is really important to them. This person talked how he shut put the people in his life and how he want very social so that is the only main difference between the Juniors culture is to be in large group and to have lots of gathering to maybe that is a contribution on why it may be harder to quite because their family's friends all drink so they probably wan to feel include even though it is the wrong thing to do for their family.
My little eyes are watching All you say and do And when I grow up big and tall I want to be like you So be careful how you teach me To be the person that you are. You re the best friend that I could have; My little ears You re my brightest are listening shinning star. To everything you say I am learning how -Patey Goat To grow up like you someday.
Poem connection This poem relates to his relationship with his sister because they both are very similar and Junior looks up to his sister even though his family weren't happy with the decision of her moving away. Although Junior doesn t see it like that, he sees it as how brave and courageous she is to be able to make that decision on her own because she knows that it s best for her and her future. He admires how positive and kind she is even when she is going through hard times. For example, when she didn t have a job and she was putting in resumes she was looking on the bright side and not worrying what could happen if she didn't get excepted or couldn't find a job. Junior wanted to have her courage and be able to stand up for himself. When she died it was really hard on Junior that he didn t even know how to react, she was one of the very few people he could connect with in his life. Junior and Mary shared drawings together and she was the one that showed him how to draw to distract all of the negativity in his life.
