  2. FACTS ABOUT ENERGY To produce each week's Sunday newspapers, 500,000 trees must be cut down. Approximately 1 billion trees worth of paper are thrown away every year in the U.S. Plastic bags and other plastic garbage thrown into the ocean kill as many as 1,000,000 sea creatures every year. The average home contributes more air pollution than does the average car. Americans consume 26% of the world s energy. From 2008 to 2030, world energy consumption is expected to increase more than 55% 83% of the world's air pollution comes from the production and use of electricity. Recycling one glass jar saves enough energy to run a TV for 3 hours.

  3. EASY WAYS TO SAVE ENERGY Reverse your fan blades. This will help keep your house warm and use less energy. Turn off the water faucet while you brush your teeth. Turn off the lights in your home while you are gone to save energy. Use CFL lightbulbs. Check for drafts, and open windows. Don t leave the refrigerator door open for a long period of time. Use a programmable thermostat.
