Work team requirements for three new business ventures As a team leader you have been allocated the responsibility of coordinating three new business deals. In your role you will need to consider the following: Legislation regarding; WHS EEO Industrial relations Anti-discrimination Relevant awards Activity standards Unfair dismissal
Your main role is to coordinate your team Determine staffing levels Coordinate the work group Monitor the groups performance against the tasks allocated
For each of the business ventures you will need to Document staff coordination Conduct a team meeting to communicate the task requirements Provide advise on staff training needs Conduct a team de brief
Your staff You have access to a staff of 20 Outdoor Leaders all with a Diploma in Outdoor Leadership. They have a range of skills and activity qualifications, attributes and experience and personalities You have a mix of gender and ages You will need to consider staff suitability but also consider legal requirements and any company policies and procedures
Business venture One You have been approached by Scouts SA to coordinate their upcoming Jamboree. The Jamboree will run for a week with the participants being based at Woodhouse but with activities being run on and off site. There will be 150 participants aged 8-15yrs with varying experience. They will be involved in a range of activities including: Leadership games Kayaking Bushwalking Rock Climbing Challenge ropes The other activities that are scout specific will be arranged by Scouts SA.
Along with your regular staff you have access to volunteers to assist you during the Jamboree. Your tasks are to: Determine the staffing levels Make at least one adjustment to staffing Coordinate the teams Monitor the teams

Business venture two The business is expanding and has seen an opportunity to provide experiences in the outdoors for corporate businesses. You are responsible for coordinating a team to operate a five-day outdoor experience for corporate groups. This experience will then be promoted to businesses. The focus is on team building and resilience. Groups will be accommodated in tents and will be required to do group catering. Whilst the groups will be responsible for setting up tents and providing meals your staff will need to oversee these activities and, in some cases, help or teach members some of the skills.
Your team will be involved in: Catering (Breakfast, lunch, dinner each day) Set up of tents (as required) Providing a variety of team building activities over the 5 days. This may include: Bushwalks Challenge ropes Kayaking Climbing Transport to and from the location Optional night-time activities or entertainment
The experience will be offered to members during the bushwalking season from April to October. You will need to consider the shoulder seasons and the peak season when you are planning your staffing levels. Your tasks are to: Determine the staffing levels Make at least one adjustment to staffing Coordinate the teams Monitor the teams

Business Venture three Your manager has asked you to provide staff to represent the business at the annual Outdoor Adventure Showcase. The showcase will run for three days starting on the Friday at 10am and finishing at 5pm on the Sunday. Normal hours for the event is: Friday 10 am 10pm Saturday 10 am 10 pm Sunday 10am 5pm You will have a bump in from 2pm -4pm on Thursday and bump out on Sunday following the event.
The areas you have been asked to set up and actively operate are: A climbing wall (set up to be used by attendees of the event) Set up camp area with Tent Makeshift camp cooking area Other basic camping equipment and clothing
Cont Kayak area showcasing your kayaks TV monitor showcasing a range of trips and experiences the business can provide You will also need to man the stand for the duration of the event and ensure promotional materials are available and that documentation and records are kept so that you can follow up any enquiries post event. Paddy Palins have partnered with you to provide advice and discounts on their equipment and clothing. (they will provide their own staff)
