Corals are likely to bleach if they are subject to temperatures over the maximum monthly mean for at least 4 degree heating weeks in a period of 12 weeks. Can you guess what a degree heating week is? The graph below shows the temperature of the ocean (when it is above the MMM) near Asuncion Island over a period of 5 months. Is a coral living here likely to bleach?
