  3. Parkeris a contemporary British sculptor and installation artist. Her work frequently features destructive amalgamations of household objects that have been layered, broken, or repurposed into new structures. She has put together themes of history, violence, and transcendence. Practice works with mediums that range from sculpture, installation, and works on paper, to photographs composed out of manipulated found objects and images.

  4. Cold Dark Matter: An Exploded View(1991) Among her best-known works is Cold Dark Matter: An Exploded View1991. She had the British army blow up a garden shed, whose fragmented pieces she displayed suspended and dramatically lit from within. She describes her work as constantly unstable for example it might be, leant against a wall, hovering, or so fragile it might collapse . It is a universal condition, that of vulnerability. We don t have solid, fixed lives; we re consistently dealing with what life throws at us.

  5. Thirty Pieces of Silver 1988 9 Thirty Pieces of Silveris made up of over a thousand flattened silver objects, including plates, spoons, candlesticks, trophies, cigarette cases, teapots and trombones. All the objects were ceremoniously crushed by a steamroller at Cornelia Parker s request. The name refers to the biblical story of how the apostle Judas betrayed Jesus in return for thirty pieces of silver, it also hints to money, to betrayal, to death and resurrection. simply it is a literal description of the piece itself.

  6. I wanted to change their meaning, their visibility, their worth, that is why I flattened them, consigning them all to the same fate. As a child I used to crush coins on a railway track - you couldn t spend the money afterwards but you kept the metal slivers for their own sake, as an imaginative currency and as physical proof of the destructive powers of the world.

  7. Parker is not interested simply in the destruction of materials, but more their resurrection and transformation. She has long been fascinated by the violence of cartoons: flattening Tom, Jerry filled with bullet holes, Road Runner falling off a cliff. The deaths are only token ones as the characters always pop up again in the next frame.
