  1. Brainstorming: In just the next couple of minutes, try to list everything that you have thrown away since this time yesterday. How much of this stuff was necessary? further or disposed of differently? Could any of this stuff been used

  2. Another Question: As Christians, how SHOULD we view stuff?

  3. Discussion Questions What do we know about Annie Leonard from the video? Did you detect any bias? In thinking about alternate perspectives, what does Ms. Leonard leave out? What images stayed in your mind? Was there anything she said that you believe is completely wrong?

  4. Discussion Questions What are the positive traits of capitalism? How is the way corporations are portrayed perhaps unfair? Are they the only beneficiaries in a capitalistic system? Given that The Story of Stuff is a polemic (a passionately presented argument), should Ms. Leonard have included other perspectives? How would their inclusion change the film?

  5. Partnered Brainstorming Are there ways in which corporations can be more responsible? In other words, can environmental stewardship, sustainability, and capitalism go hand in hand?

  6. Extraction Production Distribution Consumption Disposal Yes, the United States (and many other capitalist countries) really does usually use a linear model of production. (However, some entrepreneurs are changing this model.) (And some of the steps are getting better.)

  7. Todays mission: Working together with your group, you will create a presentation showing how your assigned product goes through each of the five stages: extraction, production, distribution, consumption, disposal

  8. Guidelines Be as specific and detailed as possible at each step for example, be sure to mention where elements of the product come from in the extraction stage (you may have to make educated guesses on some elements) Have photos and/or other visuals to document each step Put your findings together into an attractive presentation (use Google Slides or Prezi) Make sure that every group member contributes

  9. Groups and Products 1. [Redacted student names]: McDonald s Big Mac 2. [Redacted student names]: Dark chocolate chunk KIND bar 3. [Redacted student names]: Ben & Jerry s Cherry Garcia ice cream 4. [Redacted student names]: Lucky Charms cereal 5. [Redacted student names]: Jelly Belly jelly beans

  10. Special Twist! After completing your assignment, go back through and examine each of the steps critically: Can you spot any part of the process that could be done more effectively/efficiently? Can you spot any waste (time, raw materials, etc.) that could be eliminated? What is/are your proposed solution(s)?
