  2. Course Information EGR115 Intro to Computing for Engineers This course introduces students to aspects of algorithm design and software development including: specification of the problem design of a solution implementation of code testing Relevant information: Freshman level course Assumes no previous programming experience Hybrid Course (online videos, in-classroom practice) Small classes with no more than 25 students per section Students have different background/levels of experience

  3. Course Structure - CALENDAR

  4. Course Structure - CANVAS

  5. Course Structure - CANVAS

  6. ONLINE TOOLS: MATLAB GRADER

  7. MATLAB LIVE SCRIPTS

  8. Student Feedback 3 Surveys requested: Pre-Course Survey (before classes begin) Mid-Course Survey (after Exam 1) End of Course Survey (Last day of classes) Most relevant questions: Pace of the class: too fast, too slow, just right Assignment difficulty: too easy, too difficult, just right Usefulness of videos Usefulness of feedback provided Helpfulness of Tutoring

  9. Conclusion students to keep learning and stay in the course. Thorough and prompt feedback is fundamental Optional practice assignments are well received by all students ( I give additional 2% extra credit) Optional Extra Credit (more challenging problems) are included for students with programming experience MATLAB Grader is currently used as tool to check understanding of basic concepts explained in class Resubmission of assignments after feedback to improve grade is extremely helpful to motivate
