Personal Development Health and Physical Activity 2 Units for each of Year 11 and 12 Board Developed course Course Description The Preliminary course examines a range of areas that underpin Health and Physical Activity. This includes how people think about health and physical activity, the management of personal health and the way the systems of the body combine to produce human movement. The HSC course examines major issues related to the Australia s health status, including the major causes of sickness and death. It also examines factors that affect physical performance such as training, coaching , technology and ergogenic aids. Year 11 Core topics Year 11 Options Better Health for Individuals First Aid Fitness Choices The Body in motion Composition and Performance Outdoor Recreation Year 12 Core topics Year 12 Options Health Priorities in Australia The Health of Young people Improving Performance Factors Affecting Performance Sport and Physical Activity in Australia Equity and Health Sports Medicine Students are required to complete the two Core Topics and two Option topics in both Year 11 and 12.
Community and Family Studies 2 units for each of Year 11 and Year 12 Couse Cost Nil Course Description : Community and family Studies aims to promote an understanding of the diverse nature and interdependence of families and communities within Australian Society. Main Topics Covered. Year 11. Resource Management, Individuals and Groups, Families and communities. Year 12: Family and Societal interactions, Social Impact of Technology, Individuals and work. Particular Course Requirements: Students are required to complete and Independent Research Project as part of Year 12 internal assessment. The Focus will be based on individuals, groups, families, communities and resource management.
Sport Lifestyle and Recreation. Board endorsed course (Non-ATAR Course) Exclusions: Students studying Board Developed PDHPE must not study CEC modules which duplicate PDHPE modules. Students will learn about the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle and making informed responsible decisions in regard to this. Through the course students will develop knowledge about factors that influence participation in physical activity, the principles that impact on quality of performance and develop strategies to promote a healthy and active lifestyle. Modules include Aquatics, Athletics , First Aid, Fitness, Specific Sports, Gymnastics, Outdoor Recreation Sports Administration, Coaching, Social Perspectives of Sport and Healthy Lifestyle.
Exploring Early Childhood. Board endorsed course (Non-ATAR Course) Focus is on the importance of Children s experiences in the early childhood years as the foundation for future growth, development and learning. The study of this course will enable Students to : Develop awareness and understanding of the growth ,development and learning of young children and the importance of the early childhood years. Recognise the uniqueness of all children, including those with special needs. Identify a range of services developed and provided for young children and their families. Understand and appreciate the diversity of cultures within Australia and the ways in which this influences children and families. Become aware of the employment opportunities available in the area of children's services.
