Covid-19 Care Home training practical competency session. Supporting the national train the trainer programme Sussex CCGs May 2020
Aims Support the homes in training their staff To demonstrate how to hand wash or use hand sanitiser effectively To observe hand hygiene technique to assess competency To demonstrate donning of Standard respiratory personal protective equipment To assess competency of donning standard respiratory personal protective equipment To demonstrate how to take a nasal and throat swab for COVID-19 To answer any questions that have arisen from listening to the national care home train the trainer slide decks.
What is expected of you as trainers? You will be delivering the training either virtually or face to face at the care home. If delivering face to face you will need AV equipment to display the slides and videos. Internet access is necessary to display the NHS website for video demonstration. If Internet or AV equipment is not available you will need to demonstrate all the practical's, if AV equipment but no internet, you will just need to demonstrate the hand decontamination for them but can use the other slides to demonstrate PPE donning and doffing. The care home will be expected to have reviewed the 4 packs prior to your practical session and have access to PPE for each attendee, hand gel and posters to complete the practical training session. You will use the slides in the packs as a resource to answer any questions that arise during the training session If you are unsure of the answers at the time please inform the home you will contact the CCG IPC and you will get back to them with the answers You will need to undertake the practical competency assessments. Attendees will need to complete a feed back form and self competency assessment at the end of the session A certificate of competency will be issued once you are satisfied the attendee has been observed as competent to complete the three practical's and the attendee has returned their self assessment and feedback forms (process to be finalised) You will be observing practice and deeming someone competent from that observation . It is then for the attendee to take accountability and responsibility of continuing this good practice. You will need to complete a spreadsheet showing progress with the homes you are supporting this will be provided and support available if you need it.
