American Heart CPR \ BLS Step Two : Activate the emergency response system. 1. MSH Emergency 7440 or 2. Call 911 Community Emergency 3. State situation if known: Not breathing / No Pulse Send AED (Automated External Defibrillator) Step One: You Have Just Witnessed Someone Go To The Floor or You Have found Someone On The Floor, What Do I Do? Check for response & shout I need help! Ask the person are you OK! Shake the victim checking for response. Let others know No Response . 1. 2. 3. 4.
American Heart CPR \ BLS Step Three: 1. Open air way and check for breathing. 2. Use the Head tilt - chin lift to open airway if you do not expect a cervical spine injury. 3. Look, Listen Feel for breathing
American Heart CPR \ BLS Step Four: 1. Not Breathing Give Two Breaths. 2. Use Protective Mask to give breaths. 3. If no mask seal your mouth over the victim's mouth and give two breaths Step Four: 4. Check Pulse at the throat 5. Not breathing and no pulse begin CPR
American Heart CPR \ BLS Step Five: CPR 1. Must be flat on back and remove upper clothing (This is to allow AED use when it arrives). Step Five Continued: 2. Note land marks for placement of hands to do compressions. Men nipple line Women underarm pit 3. Place hands and do compressions 100 per minute depth of compression 2 on Adults NOTE: If you minimize interruptions in chest compressions, you will increase the victim s chances of survival.
American Heart CPR \ BLS Step Five Continued: 4. Do 30 compressions and two breaths per cycle. Continue until help arrives and AED is activated. AED Step Six: 1. Defibrillator has arrived: Open and follow prompts of the machine Turn on defibrillator Attach adult pads to chest Clear for ANALYSIS! Clear and shock if prompted After Shock, resume CPR- begin with chest compressions. If no shock advised leave pads on victim s chest and continue CPR beginning with compressions
Adult or Child Foreign-airway Obstruction Victim is Responsive: 1. Ask, Are you choking? 2. Give Abdominal thrusts 3. Repeat until object is removed or victim becomes unresponsive. Universal Sign For Chocking: Placement of hands for Abdominal Thrusts: Remove object only if visible.
Adult or Child Foreign-airway Obstruction If Victim Becomes Unresponsive: 1. Activate the emergency response system and get the AED 2. Begin CPR (each time you open the airway to give breaths, look for and remove object if visible. 3. If the object is removed and the victim remains unresponsive, give CPR and use AED as needed. Instructions: Review Power Point, Click green bar to take test. There will be 18 question to answer, multiple choice. You must pass test with 100%. You will be credited with one hour Continuous Education. Staff Development will set up for return demonstration to complete CPR. You will receive a second hour for your demo, total 2 hours C.E.
