  2. Sensitive Topics Socratic seminars are frequently used to facilitate discussion of sensitive and controversial topics Everyone has an opinion Strong opinions lead to increased participation in discussion What are some negatives things that strong opinions can also lead to?

  3. So how do we make this classroom a SAFE place for these discussions? In order for it to be a safe place, EVERY student should be able to: Feel comfortable speaking Not have to worry about being judged Feel like their opinions will be respected Not have to worry about being ridiculed or laughed at

  4. What would make YOU feel safe? Individually, brainstorm and write down 3-4 guidelines that we could agree to as a class that would make YOU personally feel like this classroom is a SAFE place for you to share your opinions and viewpoints in.
