  5. Why Having a Professional Web Presence is Valuable What are your thoughts? People can find you: can benefit your scholarship and pedagogy. On the job market? Search committees will Google you! Go ahead and Google yourself: what information about you is out there? Depending on the results you are getting, you may want to clean/rethink/standardize your online presence. Ways to connect with others from your field: shape future collaborations, ask for help, promote one another Way to be collegial. With Twitter: the more you use it, the higher it appears in search results for your name.

  6. Things to Think About Don t get on Twitter, create a website, develop a digital project because you think you have to! Make sure you understand what you are getting into: understand what happens to your data, make sure you can maintain the privacy you want, etc. Be consistent: you want to have the same voice/image/persona throughout your professional platforms. For name consistency, consider getting an ORCID. Think about the kind of community you want to be a part of. Be nice to people. Think about who your audience is and who you want it to be.
