Planning a meal Imagine you are planning a meal for a family event. What would be important to think about ..
Discuss these factors Cost Type of Event Season Time of the day Time available for preparation Equipment available Nutritional balance Special diets
Rules for Menu Planning Read the question -how many courses are you asked to plan? Read the question -is it a-la-carte or table d hote menu? Draw a box for your menu. Present the menu neatly in the centre of the box. Include the method of cooking for each food (Roast potato, boiled broccoli) Include three food groups in each meal.
A La Carte Menu A large choice of dishes is offered Each item is pierced separately It is possible to just have just one course from this type of menu Can work out expensive if eating three courses
Table DHote Menu Set menu with an option of two or three courses Smaller selection of dishes in each course This type of menu works out cheaper
Work in pairs In pairs complete the following activities: Write a three course table d hote menu for a family occasion. Make this menu a poster for the classroom. Research some a-la-carte menus from the internet. Print a selection of these and make a poster for the classroom.
