Cricket Wales Survey 2020
The Cricket Wales Survey 2020 collected 213 responses from individuals affiliated with the South Wales Premier Cricket League, including players, captains, umpires, and volunteers. Key trends emerged regarding participation levels, with 67% of players indicating they played less than in 2019. The survey also explored preferences for match formats, the impact of travel times to games, and suggestions for enhancing competitiveness within the leagues, including the need for regionalism and adjustments to match formats.

Standard of players played the majority of cricket in 2020 season.
Keep 50 overs for 1st XI cricket. 2nd XI 40 overs. I believe that, in current climate and to encourage more people to pay the game, it would be a sensible time to move back to more regionalism cricket. The disbanding of the Premier League and return to the clubs original leagues, ie SWCA, SWCL. This would encourage more people to play as travel would be less. It would also encourage supporters to travel and teams more likely to spend time in opposition clubhouses, which in turn would bring more money into the clubs. This does not happen in the Premier League as clubs from the East very rarely stay after games. Clearly there is a different culture within SWCA clubs. What suggestions do you have for how your league could make your cricket more competitive (if you are not currently satisfied with this)? 2nd xi should be added to the league ladder to make for more competitive cricket at that level, and narrow the standard between 1st and 2nd xi cricket. Helping develop young players more. Glamorgan players should be allowed to play whenever asked to by the county, regardless of the opposition allocations. Follow same game rules as ODI S 2nd XI Mirror League should be scrapped. All leagues should be ability based, simple as. SEWCL feeds into SWPCL. 2nd Teams can still go up, so long as they aren t in the same Division, say if the 1st Team is in the PL, then the 2s to stay in the next highest league. Expand the size of the league and overseas pros Less overs at second team level. Keeps veterans playing and encourages younger players to play senior cricket I think the current Premier League is about right, but I would encourage 1 overseas player per club. U23/Non international level/must coach and work at the club. Below premier league and 2nd team I would recommend 40 over cricket. 12 teams in prem 1 and prem 2 including Glamorgan academy,. Two up two down. Play each other once rather than twice to have 11 x 50 over league game season split these mid season with a regional T20 comp of 6 weeks with a finals day later on. Stay with 50 overs if we go to 40 overs less chance of players being involved in game. I.e. batting 6 this year I batted once in the mini league if it was 50 overs I likely would have batted in most games. This could discourage younger players from playing. Explore option of one overseas player per team this would add more overall to clubs rather than just local mercenaries turning up on a Saturday playing getting paid and adding no value in terms of coaching juniors helping on ground etc. 2nd X1 return to SWCA in Div 3/4 to start. Players bring own teas. Actually award clubs for finishing "top" three of grounds list to incentivise clubs to invest in pitches. I.e points, first pick of Glam pros, host finals. Overall standard of wickets is poor and not conducive to producing young attacking players.
